Richard Gere drops huge personal news mid-interview
Richard Gere confirmed a rumour about his personal life during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on US television this week.
Richard Gere is moving to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two kids.
The Pretty Woman actor revealed the “world news” about his family’s upcoming plans during Wednesday’s episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“You’re moving, I keep reading in the papers — this is big news!” Fallon said as he kicked off the conversation. “You’re leaving.”
“My wife is Spanish and she gave me about seven years here and so, we’re going to spend some years in Madrid,” the actor explained. “Our kids are bilingual so they’re going to flourish there.”
Gere, 75, went on to explain that his wife, 41, grew up surrounded by a big Spanish family where her grandmother was “kind of the glue that held all together.”
However, after her grandmother passed away two years ago, he noticed that Silva was “morphing into the new grandmother” of their extended family.
“She’s already planning for 35 people for Sunday lunches,” he added, noting that they will spend Thanksgiving in Madrid as well.
Gere and Silva first began dating in 2014 before quietly tying the knot in 2018.
By February 2019, they had welcomed their first child, a son named Alexander. That November, the couple confirmed Silva was expecting their second child and she gave birth to son James in April 2020.
The Runaway Bride leading man also shares son Homer, 24, with his second wife, Carey Lowell.
Gere and Silva are not the first Hollywood couple to reveal they are moving out of the United States in the last couple of months.
Days after Donald J. Trump was re-elected for his second term as President of the United States, Eva Longoria revealed she had “escaped” the country.
“I’m privileged,” the Desperate Housewives star admitted to Marie Claire for her November 2024 cover story. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
The Texas native explained that she, husband José Bastón and their 6-year-old son, Santiago, are living between Spain and Mexico.
However, after many people thought she left because of Trump, she clarified that it was her “work” that took her to Mexico and Spain — not the 2024 presidential election.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi also packed up and moved to England.
TMZ reported that they were feeling “very disillusioned” and decided to “get the hell out” of the country after the President-elect’s victory over Kamala Harris.
They have since settled into a new home in the Cotswolds in South West England — nearly two hours from London — that they bought before the election.
