The Voice finalist Jordan Tavita has opened up about facing his “toughest week ever”, with a tragic family loss playing out behind the scenes as he made it to this year’s grand finale.

Jordan delivered an emotional performance of the Foreigner classic I Want To Know What Love Is during Sunday’s episode of the show, with his family shown backstage visibly overcome with emotion.

He dedicated the performance to his beloved grandmother, who had died just two days earlier.

“Well brother, you moved me. I’m trying to keep it together,” coach Jessica Mauboy told Jordan after the performance, wiping away tears of her own.

In an interview with PerthNow published yesterday, 23-year-old Jordan spoke about how hard it was to lose a member of his family as The Voice got to the final stages of the competition.

“That was probably my most toughest week,” he told the outlet. “Only because that was the week that I lost my nanna. It was very hard for my family and I because we were separated because of COVID.

“The day of my semi-final performance was the day my family put her to rest and the fact that I wasn’t there, that hurt a lot … but I sang that for her. I could just see her screaming on the sidelines.”

Jordan’s Voice coach Guy Sebastian applauded him for his “powerful” performance during Sunday’s episode.

“Not only Jordan but his family over there, have had to obviously deal with the passing of his nanna,” he said.

“And doing that as a tribute, we’ve all had to sing through vulnerable times and it’s so hard to keep it together.

“But you know you’re fighting to honour that person through song, and I could sense that battle during that song, and it just made it even more powerful.”

As Jordan himself told the coaches: This week has been very tough for me. but I showed up.”

He’s one of four contestants battling it out for The Voice grand finale, airing 7pm this Sunday: Thando Sikwila from Team Keith, Team Guy’s Cassidy Mackie and Team Keith’s Lane Pittman.

Some fans were left confused this week as public voting is open ahead of the grand finale on Sunday, yet previews of the episode have already been shown.

News.com.au can clarify that the grand finale has been prerecorded, but viewers’ votes are promised to “entirely determine the winner” because alternate endings have been recorded. That means each finalist got to act out their winning (and losing) moment. The prerecorded ending that will air will be determined by votes.
