Awkward way The Voice Australia grand finale is filmed

Fans will vote for the winner of The Voice this week, but all four finalists actually got to film their winning moment just in case.

Fans of The Voice Australia have been left confused, as public voting is open ahead of the grand finale on Sunday, yet previews of the episode have already been shown.

Host Sonia Kruger announced at the end of Sunday night’s semi-finals episode that voting was open, and would remain open until all four finalists had performed in the grand finale this week.

However, some fans did not understand how it would work given there was a preview for the grand finale episode, giving away the fact it was prerecorded.

“Didn’t they just show the grand final performance? So even the grand final won’t be fully live, or is the winner already chosen and votes do nothing?” one person wrote on Twitter.

“So we are not even voting for final performances. We’re voting for tonight’s performances basically. Definitely don’t like this new format,” said another.

News.com.au can clarify that the grand finale has been prerecorded, but viewers’ votes are promised to “entirely determine the winner” because alternate endings have been recorded.

That means each finalist got to act out their winning (and losing) moment. The prerecorded ending that will air will be determined by votes.

The two seasons before this one were also prerecorded.

In 2020, Nine said the finale was prerecorded due to Covid restrictions.

In 2021, the show moved to the Seven Network and was again prerecorded, reportedly due to Covid.

Some fans complained the ending felt fake and said they hoped the finale would not be prerecorded again because they looked forward to watching genuine reactions.

The Voice grand finale episode airs from 7pm on Sunday and voting closes about 8.20pm AEST.

Rita Ora’s Lachie Gill, Jess Mauboy’s Faith Sosene, Guy Sebastian’s Jordan Tavita and Keith Urban’s Thando Sikwila are the remaining four finalists.

Viewers can vote for their favourite now or wait to see the final performances.

However, viewers not on the east coast will need to vote early due to the time difference.

In Western Australia voting will have closed before the episode airs.
