The judges test the world’s hottest chillies on MasterChef
In an Immunity Challenge using the world’s hottest chillies, the judges put them to the test and quickly suffer the consequences.
Thursday night’s episode of MasterChef is getting hot!
Tonight Pete, Linda, Kishwar, Elise and Dan are cooking for guaranteed immunity from this Sunday’s elimination.
Arriving to applause from the gantry inside the MasterChef kitchen, the judges tell them that they’ll be turning up the heat in the kitchen. It’s going to be hotter than it’s ever been before, because before them sit eight of the hottest chillies on the planet.
To put it into perspective, the mildest one is more than 60 times hotter than jalapeño. Explaining the measure of chilli heat using the Scoville scale, Jock reveals the eight chillies and their scores.
The first reveal is Orange Bhut Jolokia and then the White Bhut Jolokia; both around the 1 million Scoville.

The rest that follow are Lemon Blast (1.3 million), Chocolate Trinidad Scorpion, the God Stopper, the Moruga Red Trinidad Scorpion, the Hurt Berry and finally the Carolina Reaper reaching 2.2 million on the Scoville scale.
With milk and yoghurt on standby, the contestants choose and taste their chillies.
While cooking, the judges decide they should all try some of these chillies.
“Ooh yeah, let’s see if they can handle it,” Linda says cheekily as she cooks.

“All right, let’s try some,” says Jock, giving Andy the God Stopper.
After taking a nibble, they’re instantly in pain.

Andy especially starts to struggle, requesting the yoghurt immediately.
“It feels like my teeth are sweating,” he says.
We’re not sure how the judges are going to get through this tasting, lucky they have loads of milk and yoghurt on hand.
To see them sweat, tune in to MasterChef on Channel 10 at 7:30pm.
