The Block 2023 stars Kristy and Brett predicted auction outcome months ago
A resurfaced TikTok has revealed last year’s Block contestants Kristy and Brett predicted the outcome of Sunday’s auction months ago.
Last year’s The Block contestants Kristy and Brett called the exact outcome of Sunday night’s auction months ago, as they seemingly made suggestions the result was being concocted between Nine and resident billionaire bidder, Adrian Portelli.
A resurfaced clip on TikTok, first posted in August, shows the South Australian couple predicting Portelli would scoop up all five homes on this year’s Channel 9 series.
Indeed, the 35-year-old from Melbourne had an elaborate plan to land all properties auctioned off in the finale so he could host a mega giveaway, the businessman dropping more than $15 million to secure the lavish Phillip Island homes.
He even went as far as using a buyer’s agent to secretly purchase Kristian and Mimi’s house halfway through the order, waiting until all homes had sold to reveal he had covertly pulled off a clean sweep.
And it appears Kristy and Brett saw it coming a mile away. Back in August, the couple – who were left despondent after profiting just $65,000 at last year’s auctions – spoke about the low price guides for this year’s properties, which were released that same month.
They speculated this would mean the couples would be handed low reserve figures, which turned out to be the case, with most of the homes receiving reserves at around the $1.9 million mark heading into auction.
To put that into context, Kristy and Brett had a reserve of $2.97 million for their home last year, though that was located in the more costly area of Victoria’s Hampton East.
“Just to pop the tinfoil hat on, this [low reserves] screams Adrian buying the whole resort,” Brett said in the resurfaced video, which the couple re-shared on their TikTok post-finale on Sunday.
“It’s like he’s set an amount he’s going to buy all of them for, and then [he’ll] buy the whole resort and raffle it off,” Kristy added.
Brett continued: “It’s like he’s gone, ‘I’ve got $10 million, keep your reserves at that price, I’ll cop them and there’ll be a big resort giveaway.’ I can almost picture it.”
In the comment section of the post, one viewer wrote, “Not Adrian picking the winner himself”, to which Kristy replied, “You spelt 9 wrong.”
News.com.au has approached Channel 9 for comment.
Kristy and Brett, who were portrayed as the villains last year, have been regularly posting “conspiracy theory” videos on their TikTok account as this season unfolded, where they shared their winning predictions ahead of room reveals and general musings about the lack of entertainment value.
Meanwhile, Portelli’s company LMCT+, an online marketplace and rewards platform, has since gone live with its next big lottery – a monumental giveaway of all five properties on ‘Block Island.’
Dubbing it “Australia’s biggest giveaway ever”, the giveaway promises “one lucky winner will get the keys to not one, but five luxurious homes within this [Phillip Island] complex. Or, if you prefer, you can walk away with a staggering $8 million cash prize.”
Entries close at 8pm AEDT on Boxing Day, with the winner announced via Facebook Live half an hour later.
