James Weir recaps The Bachelorette Australia 2021 episode 6

A Bachelorette contestant has been dobbed on and promptly axed from the show after their secret was outed. James Weir recaps.

Brooke finds out about Ryan and Jamie-Lee (The Bachelorette)

A sorta-cheating scandal blows up with one of The Bachelorette frontrunners on Thursday night but it’s nothing compared to the moment a nude and seemingly intoxicated Osher starts riding a unicycle around the mansion’s backyard while loudly declaring his love for Channel 10 icon Angela Bishop.

Only one of these things is true. But because literally no one is watching this damn show, I can just write whatever I want and you people will never know. Maybe that’s what I’ve been doing all along. Muahahaha.

So. We’ve got a sorta-cheating scandal. And it involves one of Brooke’s faves, Jamie-Lee, who she first met when they were both contestants year’s ago on Honey Badger’s season of The Bachelor.

“We are now exactly where I hoped we’d be,” Jamie-Lee gushes tonight after they share a kiss on a single date.

This earnest assessment of their budding relationship is the perfect set-up for mass destruction. Moments later, producers bring in an adult man who calls himself The Human Lie Detector to blow up Jamie-Lee and Brooke’s happiness with a series of interrogations.

One of the guy contestants – we don’t remember his name but it’s not important – is immediately intimidated during his grilling and sings like a bird, revealing all the gossip in the mansion. The big scoop is some doink called Ryan apparently has the hots for … dun, dun, dun! … Jamie-Lee.

“I’ve seen them sitting next to each other a lot,” the random guy tattles. “I’ve seen hugs and the way they talk to each other. And, because of that, I think everyone is speculating whether they have a thing. I think Jamie Lee just thinks they’re good friends.”

Now, there’s no proof of Ryan having the hots for Jamie-Lee but producers grab this rumour and run with it because, without it, there’s no angle for tonight’s episode. They promptly relay the gossip to Brooke.

Brooke is fed up. This is her third time on The Bachelor franchise and she just can’t seem to catch a break. It’s almost as if reality shows aren’t a reliable way to find love. Crazy.

Believe us, Brooke — we’re in as much pain as you.

She doesn’t care about Ryan. But it’s the involvement of Jamie-Lee that really hurts. She zones in and demands questions.

“Why wouldn’t you tell me about this?” she asks Jamie-Lee, pulling her out to the patio.

Jamie-Lee can’t help but get defensive and flustered. “What, that I’m friends with Ryan?” she hits back. “I didn’t think that was anything that needed to come into our relationship because there’s nothing there. I didn’t know it was even a conversation. Yeah, I’m friends with him but I’m also friends with Holly but that’s not being questioned.”

Then the emotion takes over. She goes around in circles trying to explain herself.

“I’m here for you Brooke, I wouldn’t have stopped my life...” she breaks down. “I’m not just some stupid girl who’s going to go for anyone. I’m here for you. I have feelings for you. And it just sucks now that I have this on my name.”

Well it is on your name, Jamie-Lee. We’ll add it, permanently – with a second hyphenation.

Reminder: A random guy called The Human Lie Detector stirred up this gossip.

Does Brooke believe the one-time frontrunner? She says yes but her body language indicates otherwise. An early rose ceremony is called and we know exactly how it’ll end. She doesn’t even bother having a chat with Ryan to get his side of the story.

He’s sent home. Along with another girl whose name we don’t know.

As the TV crew pack up the set, Brooke gets real with the contestants and speaks off the cuff.

“I wanted to say something before the rose ceremony but I just didn’t have words,” she tells them. “Honestly, tonight was a total mind f**k. I don’t wanna have to do that again. I feel like I’m questioning a lot of things.”

It’s a warning shot – fired to keep everyone on their toes. Tension clouds the room. Then a nude Osher rides his unicycle over Brooke’s foot.
