‘Embarrassing’ new crop of Bachelorette contestants roasted
FROM an “Aldi-version Honey Badger” to a guy in a suit of armour, Ten has revealed the men vying for Bachelorette Ali Oetjen’s heart, and social media has been merciless.
HERE are the men who’ll be vying for Bachelorette Ali Oetjen’s heart when the dating reality show starts its fourth season this week.
Eighteen suited-up dudes — well, 17 in suits and one wearing a medieval suit of armour for some reason — ranging in age from 23 to 42. Almost 20 per cent of the cast is named Daniel, which is sure to be confusing. One guy, Ben, looks an awful lot like Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins, which will be triggering for fans trying to put the mess of the last Bachelor season behind them.
But as the first picture of the fellas was released over the weekend, it was the lack of racial diversity that caught the eye of many on social media:
Everyoneâs complaining about the lack of diversity on the Bachelorette but there are three men with variations of Daniel as their name!!!! nickname diversity!!

not sure which Bachelorette contestant will be the most likely to turn into a meme - Aldi-version Nick Cummins, death metal hipster kilt guy, or King Arthur pic.twitter.com/cwDSXtf4db

I canât believe yâall found a guy that walks around in amour, but not a Black, Latino, Asian, or Indigenous man.

Seriously, I know so many hetero non-Anglo dudes who are so handsome, the entire Australian TV audience would spontaneously slide off their sofa upon seeing their faces in the credits.
nice try but delete this and try again with just the tiniest bit of diversity

Of course, we’ve been here before: A lack of racial diversity has been a common complaint about the contestants on the Aussie iterations of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
During past seasons, Endemol Shine has told news.com.au of the Bachelorette casting process: “We cast each contestant based on their own merits. Race is not a contributing factor to our selection criteria. All eligible bachelors are considered regardless of their background.”
The first teaser for this season, which premieres on Wednesday on Ten, shows several of the contestants coming to blows during fiery clashes.
“I feel sorry for Ali if she ever, ever ends up with you,” one of the contestants warns another. (We’re still learning who’s who, but statistically they’re both likely to be named Dan.)
