The big problem with this year’s Bachelor

WHILE the Honey Badger might be a fan favourite and ratings success, there’s one big issue with Nick Cummins that can’t be ignored.

THERE’S no denying having Nick Cummins as this year’s Bachelor has been a stroke of TV genius for Network 10.

The larrikin rugby player has delivered the highest ratings in The Bachelor franchise’s history — as well as some pretty fantastic one liners.

But according to some contestants that is the big problem with Nick; the guy can’t make small talk to save his life.

Booted contestants Cat Henesy and Alisha Aitken-Radburn told news.com.au they had struggled to have proper conversations with Nick because he kept making wisecracks during one-on-one chats.

“I’m a big personality person but he just didn’t — the whole jokes thing I felt like I was trying to think about what they meant the whole time,” Cat said.

“I found it really hard for us to banter back.”

Describing Nick as having a “very distinct style of humour”, Alisha also admitted to struggling in her chats with him.

“Honestly, with the humour and stuff I still would have thought that might be a thing but then there is more substance or he’d go deeper with the humour — it’s pretty basic,” she said.

“There were no deep discussions.”

Cat believes Nick’s lack of genuine conversation with the other contestants could be why their drama have featured so heavily this season.

“Even if you’d try and talk about something important … he’s like, ‘you know it’s like the kookaburra on the edge of the gumtree and the field when it rains’,” she explained, laughing. “And you are sitting there going like, ‘so do you like going bushwalking?’”

The pair made a dramatic exit from The Bachelor on Thursday night with Cat being shown the door during the cocktail party while Alisha failed to receive a rose in the rose ceremony.

Alongside Romy Poulier, the pair have faced a barrage of criticism from viewers who have accused them of bullying other contestants.
