LAST night’s “bullying” antics on The Bachelor sparked a wave of fury among viewers, but according to someone who was right there as the drama played out, we’ve got it all wrong.

The massive blowout, which saw Tenille Favios run off in a flood of tears, was one of the most controversial moment on the series so far.

To recap: Tenille was left devastated and escaping barefoot into the woods (chased by producers) after coming under attack by this season’s “villain” Romy Poulier and her sidekicks, Cat Henesy and Alisha Aitken-Radburn. In front of the other women, Romy had been accusing Tenille of saying it was “gross” kissing Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins — a claim Tenille angrily denied, over and over again.

Fans of the show have since blasted Romy for her behaviour, labelling her “vile” and “a bully”.

Romy and Cat have had several run-ins with other contestants.

But speaking to news.com.au, Rhiannon Doherty — who was eliminated during last night’s episode — defended the series’ “mean girls”, claiming the bulk of what actually happened never made it to our screens.

“I was literally standing right next to them,” Rhiannon said. “I really like Tenille and I really like Romy, but there’s a lot that went on that you didn’t get to see, unfortunately. Even Tenille’s friends in the house were very off-put by her description of the date.”

Rhiannon went on to explain that “in her excitement” Tenille had gone into a very graphic retelling of her pash with Nick, despite the fact she’d been “really opinionated” beforehand about kissing on the first date.

“When we were all hanging around the house, when the cameras weren’t really there, there was a lot of talk from Tenille about how she wouldn’t kiss on the first date, and it ‘wasn’t her’, and fair enough — when she was in the moment, that all changed,” she told news.com.au.

“But I think the girls were all just really put off by the fact that she was going into so much detail about her date [with Nick] … She was just excited, but in the girls’ defence — they found it really offensive.”

Tenille was very, er, enthusiastic in her description of the kiss, according to Rhiannon.

When pressed on what Tenille had actually said about her date, Rhiannon admitted she hadn’t actually witnessed the “moaning” re-enactment that she’d been accused of.

“I’m not saying the girls [Romy, Cat and Alisha] made it up, though. One thing about those girls — they don’t make things up,” Rhiannon insisted (although Romy describing her weird neck kiss with Nick as a “full-on pash” could indicate otherwise).

“I think [Tenille] just got carried away.”

Rhiannon was eliminated this week after her recent disastrous date with Nick.

Rhiannon also defended Romy, Cat and Alisha against the “mean girls” title they’ve been given since the start of the series, arguing that they actually had a lot of friends in the house.

“There was probably five girls out of 25 that they didn’t get along with, and were very vocal about it,” she said.

“But I was friends with them, and a lot of other girls are too, happily having jokes with them, laughing, asking for advice, borrowing their clothes, jewellery, you know? Obviously now you’re only seeing their nasty comments, but they also said a lot of amazing things about the other girls.

“But you don’t see [the nice comments], because it wouldn’t make sense if you were watching it at home.”

The Bachelor continues at 7.30pm tonight on Ten.
