Bach runner-up Abbie Chatfield says she was in ‘utter shock’ when Matt dumped her
The controversial Bach runner-up started sobbing during a live interview with Studio 10, as she revealed the toll the show has taken on her.
Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield broke down in tears during a live TV interview on Studio 10 this morning, sobbing as she described the online hate she’s encountered since appearing on the reality show.
“It’s been really difficult the entire time, because I was a main character on the show, which I didn’t enjoy at all. I’ve had threats of violence, I’ve had people saying ‘Your mother shouldn’t have had you,’ — that’s the level of things I’ve been getting, hundreds a day,” Abbie said, as the Studio 10 panel consoled her. “That, in addition to being heartbroken, it’s... yeah.”
Earlier today, Abbie hit back at her critics, responding to some of the thousands of comments on her Instagram page.
The controversial contestant slammed those who critiqued her forthright nature on the show.
One commenter told her: “Just a suggestion but maybe don’t tell someone you’re horny when you’re being filmed,” to which Abbie responded: “Why not be honest with someone you’re dating? What’s wrong with being horny in an adult relationship where you ONLY KISS for 3 months...???”
Abbie also slammed those who questioned her motivations for appearing on the show, and accused one commenter who told her she’d “open(ed) her legs before her heart” of slut-shaming and misogyny.
Elsewhere, Bach alumni Megan Marx chimed in with some advice: “It’s awful and hard, but you are strong,” she wrote.
Earlier, Abbie posted a heartbreaking message to Instagram following her brutal televised dumping on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old Queenslander, who divided viewers throughout the season, was visibly shocked and angry as Matt explained that his heart belonged to Chelsie.
And tonight, months on from the end of the show, she said she “still hasn’t fully healed” from her heartache.

Fiercely confident and outspoken Abbie demanded a more detailed explanation during the episode, before storming off to her airport ride.
“Can you explain further why?,” Abbie asked Matt, her expression steely.
“It’s nothing …. to explain, other than …. just my heart,” Matt fumbled.
“You’re just not there,” Abbie finished for him.

Telling the astrophycist she “wished he’d sent her home sooner”, and adding that she was “completely, absolutely heartbroken,” Abbie wandered off in the South African wilderness swearing under her breath.
“OK. As long as you’re happy. That’s all that matters,” the blonde sighed before muttering “Get me the f*** away from him. I wanna go home.”
In the car, Abbie did her best to hold her tears back, before breaking down admitting that she “felt silly” thinking things with Matt would work out.
She echoed the same sentiment in her Instagram post which went up shortly after the episode aired.
“The only way I can describe this moment is complete and utter shock,” the post began.
“I was numb. I couldn’t and didn’t want to feel anything.”
She went on to say that she had truly believed Matt’s feelings were as strong as hers, and that by the end of the season, it didn’t feel like they were filming a show.
“It didn’t feel like we were filming a show at all, it felt like we had this real relationship built in a little bubble of “The Bachelor” and we would be out soon and able to live a normal life.”
But when Matt let her down in South Africa, it threw her back into the reality that it was all, in fact, a reality show.
“Hearing Matt say “my heart is with someone else” reminded me that we were filming and that Matt had to make a difficult decision, and he did not see in me what I saw in him … It was like emotional whiplash.”
The eloquent post went on: “It felt like I was in a dystopian reality. The second the cameras turned off, I sobbed. I screamed. I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t think this would be how we would end. I spent weeks crying about this relationship that had almost no closure.”
But — despite making it clear in tonight’s episode that she’d “be over it by the time (the episode) airs” — the blonde beauty devastatingly revealed she still hasn't recovered.
“I still haven’t fully healed from my relationship with Matt, but I know he and the gorgeous woman he is with are happy, and that’s all that matters.”
Abbie has been at the centre of rumours that Matt left Chelsie for her shortly after the show ended, but her emotional post all seems to prove he is still with the 28-year-old chemical engineer.
