Sportsbet places Sharon and Ankur last with $13 odds ahead of Block auction
Ahead of auction day on Sunday, Block stars Sharon and Ankur have been hit with another dire prediction about the fate of their unfinished build.
Sportsbet has placed embattled Block couple Sharon and Ankur dead last in the race to win at auction this weekend.
It comes after the team faced a humiliating dressing down from Scott Cam and the judges during Sunday night’s walk through, leaving them disheartened ahead of auction day.
Judges Neale Whitaker, Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze savaged their unfinished build and landscaping efforts, with Whitaker declaring that the property should be listed as a “renovator’s delight”.
“It’s hard to believe that this house could go to auction in this state,” Whitaker said.
Meanwhile, Blaze said the pool and landscaping added “no value” to the property.
“This is really bad planning. Terrible, terrible planning. It feels like we’ve been shoved into a laneway – and we’re on 10 acres,” she said.
Ahead of the series finale on Sunday, Sportsbet has revealed the bookies odds for who will take out the win, with Sharon and Ankur trailing well behind.
Tom and Sarah-Jane, who have been frontrunners from the start of the season, rounding it out with a win in landscaping week, are the firm favourites with odds of $2.
Meanwhile, cheeky besties Omar and Oz are strong contenders, with Sportsbet cutting their odds from $4.50 into $3.75 this week.
Sydney couple Ryan and Rachel are on the third line of betting at $5. Dylan and Jenny are $6.50, followed by Ankur and Sharon at $13.
Sportsbet’s Sean Ormerod described this season of The Block as “topsy turvy”, with four teams in tight contention for top spot.
“It’s been a topsy turvy season. Throughout the series so far, four of the five teams, at one point, were equal or joint favourites so it just goes to go show how wide open this year really is. It’s anyone’s guess which team will win with auction to decide the winner,’’ he said in a statement today.
Sadly, Sharon and Ankur were likely the outliers, having experienced an uphill battle from day one culminating in their funds being cut off in the final weeks of the competition due to overspending.
In Sunday’s episode, Cam noted that, while all the contestants had elements they still needed to finish off, Sharon and Ankur were the only team to make it to their final “tools down” with an almost entirely un-clad, unfinished shed.
Each team’s reserve price will be revealed ahead of the auctions during Sunday’s finale. All five homes are on the market with the same price guide of $4-$4.4 million.
