The wild ride that is Love Island Australia has come to a close for 2023, but not before an emotional finale saw one favourite couple crowned the winners.

Viewers were on the edge of their seats last night when host and national treasure Sophie Monk revealed the winners on this season of the dating show.

The finale three couples were Savannah and Clint, Kale and Tyra, and Zac and Lucinda, who previously appeared on Love Island UK. But only one couple could win the $50,000 cash prize.

As the finalists and contestants gathered for the last episode, Monk requested the “fancy envelope” holding the name of the winners, which had been decided by viewers in a public vote.

“The winners of Love Island 2023 are Tyra and Kale!” she announced, as the pair’s faces collapsed with sheer joy.

The finalists congratulated the couple as their fellow Islanders cheered in the background.

Monk then asked the winners how they were feeling and what they would do with their prizemoney.

“I reckon some more crap tattoos and taking this one on a holiday,” Kale replied.

In a surprise twist, this year’s winners were not asked whether they wanted to split the $50,000 cash or steal it for themselves.

As a refresher, winning couples on any Love Island show across the global franchise have always been asked if they opted for love or money.

Choose love, and you get to sail off into the sunset together with the cash. Choose money, and you say goodbye to your chosen one as you sail off alone but very cashed-up.

Even if asked, both Tyra and Kale are so smitten with one another that they would have likely chosen love, if their gushy messages for each other ahead of the finale were anything to go by.

“A big shout out to my crazy housemates, the most hardworking production crew, and to everyone who has been following along at home,” Tyra wrote on Instagram.

“An even bigger shout out to a very special boy I met along the way – falling in love with you has been pure magic. Thank you everyone for all your support, it truly means the world!”

Meanwhile, Kale wrote on his Instagram, “What a ride! Entering this place I honestly had no idea what to expect. A few challenges & firepits later here I am leaving with lifelong friends and the girl of my dreams. Thanks for having me.”
