Olena calls BS on Richie’s ‘fairytale’ in tense conversation on The Bachelor
IN PERHAPS the most real and magnificent moment we’ve ever seen on The Bachelor, Olena called BS on Richie’s “fairytale”.
IN what was perhaps the most real moment we’ve seen all series on The Bachelor, Olena laid it down for Richie on Wednesday night’s semi-final episode and called BS on his “fairytale”.
Whisking the final three girls away to Bali before making his final decision, Richie surprised Olena with a surfing date. Given that, throughout the series, she was completely unimpressed with any date that involved physical activity — or leaving the mansion at all, really — it goes without saying she wasn’t in the mood to hang ten.
While waxing their surfboards, Richie tried to fish for compliments by asking Olena what her mum thought of him on the home visit.
And that’s when things started sinking.
Olena said her parents had concerns and — given Olena lives in Sydney and Richie lives in Perth — had doubts over the logistics of whether a relationship would work.
Richie tried to brush off her hesitation by saying they’d fly between both cities, but Olena was quick to slam him down.
“I see that as a huge mess for me,” she told us. “It’s travelling back and forwards for a relationship — like, is that going to last?”
She then kicked the real talk into overdrive over dinner.
“Going into the home towns, sitting with my family and talking to them, made me question things so much more,” she tells him. “As to (whether) you were living in a fairytale — this is the real sh*t.
“Be realistic about things — about the relationship, not about you. You’re a great guy but there’s more issues and more concerns and more things to think about.”
A visibly flustered Richie wasn’t too comfortable with all the finger pointing, so he flipped it on her and said she doesn’t meet him halfway with the communication.
“When I think about the relationship I’ve built with Olena and I put it on a scale — there’s patience and frustration,” he said. “And it’s starting to lean a lot more to the frustrations.”
Fans on social media were quick to side with Olena.

And Olena still had a few more criticisms.
“I feel like I’m really suppressing my feelings right now,” she told him. “At the end of the day I’m thinking, is it too much of a hassle for us to have a relationship”
And with her thorough critique, Olena successfully sabotaged her chances at making it into the final two.
Richie didn’t give her a rose and admitted the decision wasn’t hard.
“Saying goodbye to Olena wasn’t that difficult,” he said. “I want to be with a woman that’s going to love me for me. And someone that’s going to see challenges ahead and want to work and overcome them together.”
For viewers, the elimination came as no surprise.
