My Kitchen Rules: Veronica slams producers for ‘sex scandal’ storyline
Veronica says it was “wrong” for Channel 7 to make a storyline out of Piper and Victor’s off-camera relationship which was revealed last night.
My Kitchen Rules contestant Veronica has slammed the show’s producers and Channel 7 for airing last night’s “sex scandal”.
In last night’s heavily promoted episode, Veronica was shown revealing to the other contestants that her teammate Piper had been sleeping with Victor. Piper had separated from her husband just before filming began for the reality show.
The episode was edited as if this was a bombshell, but Veronica told news.com.au this morning that most contestants knew about the relationship already.
“Everyone knew what was going on between Victor and Piper,” Veronica said.
“Romel knew what was going on. Piper had confided in him about the relationship … and Josh and Austin knew as well and they just kept picking.
“It’s very unfair for Piper. At the end of the day she was bullied at that table. It’s just very unfair because it’s all public. She’s got a family and two kids and this is really unfair.”
Romel appeared on The Morning Show today and confirmed that he was aware of Piper and Victor’s relationship before the “bombshell”.
“We all had our suspicions … but that wasn’t something that we wanted to bring out on the table, so when Veronica said it, you saw my face, it was jaw dropping,” he said on Channel 7 this morning.

Veronica told news.com.au that after she mentioned Victor and Piper’s relationship to the other teams, she left the table and informed Piper of what she’d said.
She also claimed that Piper begged producers not to air the sex scandal storyline, but that her pleas were ignored.
“Piper obviously (wanted) to keep it a little more private,” Veronica said.
“It was quite tough for her and it’s still quite tough for her. I was with her yesterday … we’re still friends and we keep checking up on each other and Piper hasn’t been in a good place and unfortunately it’s because of the show.
“At the end of the day we signed up for a cooking show. Of course things are going to happen — I get that — but this is quite full on.
“There’s a family here, there are kids involved. I just think it’s really wrong.”
Veronica told news.com.au that she doesn’t regret going on My Kitchen Rules, but criticised the show for focusing on drama between the contestants rather than cooking.
“Off camera we all got along,” she said about the contestants in Group 2. “To now watch it back, it’s really scary. They’re (the public) only seeing one side of things. And they should bring it back to the cooking and what happens in the kitchen.”
My Kitchen Rules continues tonight on Channel 7 at 7.30pm
