‘You are chauvinistic!’ Viewer fury over Mike’s comments
MAFS villain Mike showed a very different side of himself last night — then he blew any goodwill with these cringeworthy comments.
Mike Gunner has been slammed and accused of making “chauvinistic” comments after he claimed the drama between the Married At First Sight’s female contestants was because of “biology”.
It came after the controversial reality star showed a much more vulnerable side early in last night’s finale, sitting with ‘wife’ Heidi Latcham to explore what went wrong in their relationship.
“It wasn’t my intention to hurt her like I was,” he said.
“It’s a crying shame, because we had this great chemistry. I was (in love), yeah. And it takes a lot to break my heart.”
As Heidi thanked Mike for “being my husband,” tears welled in his eyes and he appeared overcome with emotion. “I’m a bit too sad to talk,” he whispered, trying to compose himself.
“It was a beautiful journey,” he continued, as Heidi rushed to embrace him and the contestants and experts alike all shed a tear.
It was raw, vulnerable, emotional — was this a whole new Mike?
Maybe not.
Shortly afterwards, and following the reunion dinner party’s explosive fight between Martha and Cyrell and weeks of drama, Mel Schilling asked the brides what they thought of their behaviour during this year’s season.
“I’m just wondering, ladies, are there any lessons for you?” Mel asked.
“Is there anything that you take away from this that perhaps you might do differently with female friendships in the future?”

As the female contestants discussed the girls’ night drama and fighting, Mike decided to pipe up and give his two cents.
“Uh,” Mike sighed. “There’s a few things I’d like to point out. I think groups of women under pressure don’t cope as well as groups of men under pressure.”
Unsurprisingly, Mike’s comment drew audible groans from the other contestants, with this photo of the MAFS experts summing up the mood in the room pretty well:

“Stop!” Tamara sighed, while Martha yelled: “You are chauvinistic!”
But Mike wasn’t done yet, asking the others to “hang on” so he could finish explaining himself.
“There’s differences between men and women, don’t mistake that,” he said.
“I mean, the matriarchy and the patriarchy are two different things entirely, and there are different dynamics at play.
“We’re seeing these girls have fallen apart and the men haven’t.
“Any group of women that are put in this same type of situation, maybe this (group situations) just doesn’t speak to their biology … there is actually some merit in that.”
Mike stood by his comments while speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O show this morning.
He said he had “no” regrets, “None at all Why, do you think I should have?”
“Obviously different circumstances call for different outcomes. That might have been a bit of a generalisation but it’s what I thought in the moment based on the question I was asked,” he continued, apparently forgetting he wasn’t actually asked a question.
Viewers at home were left unimpressed by Mike’s comments last night:

It’s not the first time Mike has expressed his, ahem, interesting views on women, with the groom blaming “toxic feminism” for the backlash over his behaviour on MAFS.
“Are you telling me that men can’t stand up for themselves?” Mike toldThe Sydney Morning Herald .
“Are men now so emasculated that we can’t speak our minds? That we can’t be real? That we have to somehow fulfil the expectations of those around us?
“I simply refuse to do that and I am speaking on behalf of all men in this country.”
