Awhina was paired with 31-year-old Adrian Araouzou on the show and there relationship was tumultuous, to say the least.
Therefore, it came as no surprise when they decided to walk away from each other at final vows.
However, at the end of that episode, which was filed in November but aired on Sunday night, the pair sensationally did a backflip just minutes later after realised their chemistry was too strong.
So in front of shocked producers – and later viewers – they agreed to take their relationship into the real world to see where it goes.
“What’s just happened?” a producer asked them after the confusing ceremony.
“We’ll go out together, and I think we both know the situation and there’s no pressure to it,” Adrian said.
“We’re just going to go home and see where we stand and how we go.”
Despite reports that the pair are no longer an item, Awhina was still wearing her wedding ring during her beach outing.
In an interview this week with 9Entertainment, both sat separately and remained coy about the status of their relationship five months after filming wrapped.
“Am I surprised that final vows went the way it did? Absolutely not! Have you seen Adrian and I’s relationship? You never know what we’re gonna do,” Awhina said.
“I was at war with myself. The confusion came with head, heart, body. They were all fighting against each other with what I wanted.”
Adrian, who is based in Sydney, remained just as ambiguous, telling the outlet he was “still trying to process what happened”.
“I’m leaving my doors open and I want to see what happens and whatever’s to come will come,” he said. “I’ll decide then, I genuinely don’t know but I’m excited for it.”
