A young groom from Bondi has been absolutely ripped apart by viewers – and his new wife – after his cringe-worthy appearance on Married At First Sight on Sunday night.

Al, a 25-year-old carpenter, is a handsome yet glaringly immature mama’s boy who has never been in a relationship. He’s a confident “kid” who’s very into his appearance and provides a lot of laughs.

But Twitter users hit out at Al, calling his marriage to Samantha was more like an “adoption” due to his lack of independence.

“My best qualities are definitely my body, my smile, my face in general. My personality, sometimes,” he said prior to tying the knot.

“Insecurities? Probably my legs. They aren’t as muscly as I want them to be.”

After meeting his new wife for the first time, he said: “I think she likes me, for sure. If she doesn’t like me, I would be extremely shocked but I just can’t see why she wouldn’t like me, I just can’t see anything wrong with me.”

He clearly doesn’t realise that his dependence on his mother including that she still makes his dinner, packs his lunch, and does his washing is a major turn off for most women. His mum even tucked in his shirt as he prepared to get hitched.

The marriage ceremony itself is very awkward, especially when he used Eminem lyrics in his vows alongside talking about spaghetti.

Then, during the wedding photos he spent more time looking at himself in the mirror than he spent looking at his new bride. He even paused the photo shoot so he could do some push-ups, much to everyone’s disbelief.

He then appeared surprised when he was rejected when trying to kiss his new bride.

But that was just the beginning of a series of surprises. At the reception, when Sam questioned if he knew how to dance, he attempted to reassure her of his skills but doing the worm.

Later while on their honeymoon, he even likened himself to Tom Cruise when talking of how kissing Sam was proving to be difficult.

Things were looking up on the honeymoon as Sam warmed to Al’s humour, but there were a lot of nerves from Al when talking about trying to kiss Sam: “It’s mission impossible but I can do it. They don’t call me Tom Cruise for nothing.”

Sensing some good vibes between the couple, clueless Al went in for a kiss after a long pause but was rejected again and left totally humiliated.

It’s easy to see why the social media reaction to his appearance on the Channel 9 show was nothing short of brutal.

Twitter user Daisy summed up many viewers’ sentiments when she wrote: “Oh no this guy is as deep as a puddle.”

Fellow Twitter user Brent broke down the problems in a bit more depth: “This guy is the ultimate catch – loves himself more than he could a partner, can’t cook, clean or tie his own shoes.

“He obviously is slightly delusional cos he can’t understand why he is single! He is gonna make some woman a very lucky lady.”

Meanwhile user Mimi said: “Can’t cook, clean, or do laundry. So this is an adoption not a marriage.”

And of course, jokes about his maturity level were irresistible.

Al’s reference to living in Bondi was also torn apart by another Twitter user who wrote: “Gawd! Imagine describing ‘living in Bondi’ like it’s a personality trait.”

Meanwhile user Isobel expressed her dismay at Al’s vows: “If my groom made a dumb rhyme involving spaghetti in his vows at our fake wedding, I’d never let him hear the end of it.”

“I’m like Tom Cruise”.

And many were shocked he couldn’t tuck in his own shirt.

When it came to red flags, there were just so many.

So what does the future hold for the couple? It’s anyone’s guess.

As Sam said: “Al is super fun and he’s very beautiful to look at but true love takes a lot more than perfect bone structure.”

We don’t hold a lot of hope considering that Al’s tactic to try to win Sam’s heart is: “Do I buy flowers or something?”

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
