‘I got hammered’: Ex-Married At First Sight star Nadia Stamp’s big gripe

EX-MARRIED At First Sight star Nadia Stamp has slammed the show for “encouraging” bad behaviour, and revealed what it was really like behind the scenes.

Nadia breaks down and walks out

AN EX-Married At First Sight contestant has accused Channel Nine of “encouraging” drama to boost ratings in the explosive current season.

Nadia Stamp, who was matched with ‘villain’ Anthony Manton on the show last year, criticised producers for heightening the drama — although she denied it was actually scripted.

“Producers encourage controversy. This year they’ve really taken the leash off and they’ve allowed [bad behaviour],’ she told Daily Mail, presumably referring to situations like the controversial affair between Dean Wells and Davina Rankin.

“ ... I think there’s a plan as to how they want to design the show. So in terms of scripting, it’s not, ‘you need to say this and you need to say that’ — that’s not how it’s scripted. I think your commitment ceremonies are very much set up in a way to address any of the controversies that’s happened within the show.”

According to Stamp, it means contestants have no idea how they’ll come across until it’s too late.

“When you’re watching it all back it’s quite difficult because you don’t really know what’s gong to be edited and you don’t know how you’re going to be portrayed,” she told the publication.

“You may be given a few titbits of how you’ll be edited but if you don’t have a close relationship with the production you are pretty much watching it confused — it’s quite full on.”

When asked about the latest season of the show, which has caused plenty of controversy with its explosive fights and a secret affair — Stamp didn’t mince words.

“I’m not watching the show to be honest because I feel that the show format … it’s all about ratings now isn’t it? At the end of the day it’s all about money ... and I was exhausted last season because I went there trying to find love and ended up having 10 interviews with media outlets a day and not getting paid a cent for it.”

The former reality TV star also opened up about how much she struggled with the public reactions to the show.

“I got absolutely hammered by the press, it’s hard reliving it,” Stamp said.

Married At First Sight airs 7pm Sundays and 7.30pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights on Nine.
