Married At First Sight fans did a double-take last night when they mistook bride Lucinda’s father for a famous celebrity.
It was Family and Friends week on Monday’s night’s episode when the participants got to see their loved ones again for the first time since the weddings, so Lucinda and her husband Timothy met up with her parents and his friends.
Fans went wild when they realised her father, Michael, shared an uncanny resemblance to late actor and comedy icon, Rodney Dangerfield.
At first, viewers couldn’t place Michael, who was wearing a bright orange suit, but they were certain he was someone they had seen on TV before.
“OK, where have I seen this guy,” one viewer commented. “I’m sure I met him or have seen him on TV. It’s doing my head in.”
Other viewers put the rest out of their misery and concluded that Michael looked a lot like Dangerfield.
“Exactly what I said to my husband. So glad others thought the same – resemblance is uncanny,” one wrote.
It was also suggested Michael was a doppelganger for The Simpsons character Larry Burns, who played Mr Burns’ son in animation. Ironically, it was Dangerfield who voiced Larry on the show back in 1996.
The actor passed away in 2004, one month after he was placed in a coma after experiencing complications from heart valve surgery.
But the star left behind a legacy of hits from the ‘80s, including Easy Money, Back to School, Ladybugs and his breakout role Caddyshack.
He’s also known for playing Lucifer in the 2000 Adam Sandler movie Little Nicky.
Like Dangerfield, Lucinda’s dad bought the comedy – with a side of sternness – during a one-on-one chat with Timothy.
“Stop getting your tits in a tangle and pull your finger out,” Michael advised him of showing Lucinda more intimacy.
“We’d love to see a bit more action on your behalf. It could be a one-night stand, it could be anything but just try it.”
