Ex-MAFS contestant claims experts have ‘zero say’ in wife swap
The experts’ decision to let Jess and Dan stay has infuriated viewers — but what really happened was probably quite different.
Last night’s episode of Married At First Sight has proved the reality show’s most controversial yet, with the experts’ decision to let Dan Webb and Jess Power stay outraging viewers.
A petition calling on the show to be taken off air for the “wrong and immoral” decision has gathered more than 11,000 signatures, while Jess and Dan have both received death threats over their affair.
But according to one ex-contestant, the idea that experts John Aiken, Mel Schilling and Trisha Stratford are responsible for letting Dan and Jess stay is “fake news”.

Dean Wells found himself labelled as last year’s MAFS villain after he had an “affair” with Davina Rankin.
Compared with this year’s affairs, Dean and Davina’s was pretty tame by comparison with just a few secret hugs, but both did agree to see if they could leave their respective partners and re-enter the show as a couple — sound familiar?
However, unlike Dan and Jess, Dean backed out of his pact with Davina at the commitment ceremony and opted instead to stay with “wife” Tracey Jewel — only for her to dump him at the end of the season.
Despite last night’s commitment ceremony showing the experts debating the pros and cons of letting Dan and Jess stay on the show before sharing their decision, Dean claims the reality would have been much different.
“This could not be more fake. The experts have literally zero say in this,” Dean shared on his Instagram story. “The producers tried to make me and Davina do the same thing last year. #fakenews.”
It’s not the first time Dean or Davina have spoken about their affair, with both slamming MAFS producers for manipulating what they said was never a full-blown relationship.
Speaking to the Kyle and Jackie O Show in February Davina alleged she had wanted to leave the show but was instead offered a deal to re-enter the show with Dean and had no idea their flirtation would play out like an affair on television.
“They said, ‘You guys are too good for the show’,” she explained.
“They said Dean and I could come back as a couple because they didn’t want to lose us. We were like, ‘We don’t want to be here’ — very open and honestly — but then they were like, ‘You guys are really good on TV, we can do this, we can bring you back on the show and have it this way’.”
Married At First Sight continues 7.30pm tonight on Nine.
