Carly v. Ashley: The MAFS showdown we never saw coming

WE WERE ready for the Davina versus Tracey showdown, but absolutely no one expected this feud to take over as the most explosive moment of the season.

MAFS Ep 31 Recap: A Riotous Reunion

FROM the moment it was revealed that Dean Wells had been secretly meeting up with Davina Rankin behind Tracey Jewel’s back on Married At First Sight, a showdown between the two women was inevitable.

But during last night’s episode, viewers were left shocked by another — and much more dramatic — blow-up.

Troy Delmege and Ashley Irvin had parted on good terms six weeks’ prior to last night’s explosive dinner party, but their new-found friendship disappeared as soon as he walked in with Carly Bowyer on his arm. Ashley was completely blindsided by the new romance between her former castmate and her ex — and didn’t take it well.

A low-key entrance.
A low-key entrance.

In fact, as they walked into the room hand-in-hand, she had one word for the situation: “F**k.”

She wasn’t thrilled.
She wasn’t thrilled.

Far from cooling down, Ashley’s rage escalated every time Carly came near her.

Following her arrival, Carly made a beeline for Ashley, telling her: “I want to talk to you at some point, OK?”

Ashley immediately snapped back: “Yeah, maybe a little respect or a heads-up wouldn’t go astray.”

Speaking with producers, she explained why she was so angry.

“I was f***ing married to him, I gave it my all, I stayed until the end because I really wanted something to work and now ‘surprise, we’re together’,” she said.

“I think it’s disrespectful. I’m angry. Should I be? I don’t know. But I am.”

Troy’s attempt to smooth things over with Ashley was no more successful than his girlfriend’s.

“Ash, good to see you!” he told her.

“Nice hearing from you. Oh, yeah, I haven’t heard from you. I wonder why?” she replied sarcastically, prompting Troy to offer up a half-hearted explanation.

“Well, the way it ended and stuff ...” he said awkwardly.

“The part where you said ‘I love you’ and then hooked up with another girl, is that it?” Ashley spat back.

When the group sat down to dinner, Ashley placed herself as far away from the happy couple as possible and continued to stew over it.

They didn’t seem to mind.

The new couple couldn’t keep their hands off each other at the table.

While Davina and Tracey had their long-awaited showdown in a private room, Ashley and Carly’s played out in front of the entire group during one of the most cringe-worthy scenes in the series’ history.

Carly bravely walked over to Ashley while she was talking to the other girls, but when she tapped her on the header, was greeted with a simple: “Nope.”

Charlene had front-row seats to the drama.

“Ash, can I please speak to you?” she tried again.

“Nope, you had two weeks to speak to me. Nup,” Ashley said, without even turning around.

When Carly tried to reason with her, Ashley shrieked: “Shush!”

“We were mates, were we not? We were FRIENDS! You just admitted we were friends! Every chat I had with you, whether to stay or leave! I would never do that to you,” she shouted, as the rest of the group looked on in horror, and Troy shrunk down in his seat.

“Ashley at any point, did you have any feelings towards Troy?” Carly demanded.

When Ashley tried to say yes, Carly shot it down.

“I call absolute bulls**t on that ... You know what? You’re being extremely immature and you need to grow up.”

For once, we all seemed to totally agree with Davina:

This sums up most of our reactions.
This sums up most of our reactions.

Plus, given that absolutely nothing was resolved between the two, it’s certain to kick off again during the explosive finale tonight.

Married At First Sight continues at 7.30pm tonight on Nine.
