Lego Masters host Hamish Blake takes cheeky swipe at rival Channel 7 series

The TV and radio personality couldn’t help but mock Lego Masters’ upcoming rival show Blow Up in a playful dig caught on camera.

Hamish Blake has taken a cheeky swipe at upcoming rival Channel 7 show, Blow Up.

The TV and radio personality currently hosts the popular Nine program Lego Masters Australia, a series where paired contestants attempt to impress Blake and resident Lego expert Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught with their creativity and designs.

Blow Up runs on a similar premise, except contestants build their creations using balloons – a novelty Blake thinks will wear thin pretty quickly.

“Are balloons interesting on TV? That’s really the question about this build,” Blake quipped on last night’s episode of Lego Masters, to which McNaught replied: “You can’t make a whole show about balloons.”

Blake’s comments came as contestants Andrew and Damian embarked on a 10-hour challenge to recreate the famous balloon house from the 2009 Disney film Up.

“Balloons are good for a part of one episode of a show. No, I don’t think there’s a series in them – but maybe there’s something we’re missing,” Blake playfully pondered.

The timing of the joke appeared to coincide with Seven’s newly released promos for Blow Up, which will be hosted by actor Stephen Curry and comedian Becky Lucas.

In the series, contestants will create an array of designs using their balloon artistry skills, from larger-than-life pieces to miniature designs.

The competition – which also features some of the most talented balloon artists in the country – will be judged by resident balloon expert Chris Adamo alongside a panel of celebrity guest judges until one contestant is crowned Australia’s greatest balloon artist.

Blow Up is a celebration of artistry, skill, design and unbridled imagination. I’m so incredibly excited to be embarking on this bonkers adventure with Becky and these exceptionally talented artists, which is sure to remind me once again of my distinct lack of any discernible skills whatsoever,” Curry said in a recent press release.

“Rest assured, this is not ‘balloon animals and pirate swords’ – this is full scale, high-art balloon sculpture. These artists are the Thoroughbreds of the Inflatable Arts.”
