Australian influencer Skye Wheatley has revealed she was brutally axed from Big Brother just weeks out from filming the 2022 series.

The Gold Coast-based mother-of-two, who is a contestant on this season of Network Ten’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!, told news.com.au she was signed on to star on season 14 of Big Brother for Channel 7, which saw housemates deemed as franchise “royalty” return to film an all stars series.

Wheatley, 30, was set to join fellow legends of the franchise, including Reggie Sorensen, who went on to win the season, as well as Tim Dormer, Tully Smyth and Layla Subritzky.

However, she claimed a controversial Instagram Q&A about her longtime partner Lachlan Waugh just two weeks out from shooting prompted harsh backlash, and saw her booted from the show via email.

“I was supposed to go on for that, but a couple of weeks before flying to Sydney to do it, I answered a question on my Instagram, ‘Who’s more dominant in the bedroom?’,” Wheatley said.

“And I said, ‘Oh, it depends … If I’m in the mood, I’m not going to take no for an answer.’ But he likes that. He likes when I’m like, ‘Babe, let’s have sex.’

“But everyone was like, ‘You make him have non-consensual sex.’”

Days before filming began in late 2021, Wheatley received an email from Channel 7 representatives cutting her from the show’s line-up of stars.

“They said, ‘Hey, we’re not going to go ahead with putting you in.’ They wouldn’t tell me the reason, but, that had to be the reason,” she said.

“They didn’t want bad publicity or anything like that, which was really disappointing. It actually broke my heart.”

The bubbly reality star, who first shot to fame on Big Brother in 2014 when she was 20 – where she placed third – admits she is often “unfiltered” and even a “bit unhinged”.

During the first two episodes of I’m A Celebrity, which premiered from the South African jungle on Sunday night, Wheatley has emerged as a talking point among viewers for her outspoken nature.

She asked former Studio 10 host Tristan MacManus if he was the “TV love rat”, candidly opened up about her several cosmetic surgeries, and described herself as an “influenza” [influencer].

And while she concedes she might cop a bit of flack for her frankness, Wheatley is hopeful the public will see her heart is in the right place.

“I do say really dumb s**t and sometimes I don’t find the right vocabulary to express what I’m trying to say and it will come out wrong,” she said.

She continued: “And it’s just like, oh f**k, that’s not what I actually meant. And I’m very impulsive, so I can say things in the moment and then it’d be like, ‘wow, that was not the right thing to say.’

“So I’m worried because I am who I am, but I also feel like I’ve learned over the years being so heavily involved in social media that there’s things that aren’t really appropriate. Things that people will be offended by.

“I’m not easily offended if someone makes a joke or cracks a joke at me. I will not be offended. I am not that sensitive, but have learned that other people are sensitive. So you have to keep in mind not to say certain things.”

Wheatley, who has two young sons, is competing for the charity Bully Zero, which works to reduce bullying in schools.

It’s a cause close to her heart, having dealt with nastiness online for the better part of a decade.

“[Bullying] is life threatening. And I’ve had it, but it’s not even about me, it’s more that I want to protect my kids, and I would never want them to bully anyone else because that would break my heart even more,” she said.

“But I know what it’s like to have people just be so cruel and so nasty that you’re like, ‘What the f**k is humanity coming to?’

“As a good person myself and as a mum, I don’t want my boys to grow up in a world like this.

“So yeah, if we can make a difference and teach kindness and love and respect for everyone equally, I feel like hopefully the world will be a better place.”

The winner of I’m A Celeb will receive $100,000 for their chosen charity.
