British star quits filming ‘I’m A Celebrity’ in Australia after 24 hours
A British star has abruptly quit filming ‘I’m A Celebrity’ in Australia after just 24 hours, as she offered a cryptic explanation for her exit.
British TV personality Olivia Attwood has quit filming I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here in Australia after just 24 hours.
The 31-year-old reality star and model, who arrived in NSW just days ago to take part in the UK version of the show, appeared in the debut episode last night before being forced to bow out.
She took to Instagram to explain her sudden departure, saying it was for reasons “beyond [her] control” and that her fans would “hear the truth” from her in coming weeks.
“To say Olivia is heartbroken would be an understatement,” a representative for the star wrote on her Instagram stories, which has two million followers.
“She dreamt of doing I’m A Celebrity for years, and was absolutely loving every second of the show and throwing herself into jungle life feet first (just as we knew she would).
“However, for reasons beyond her control her journey has been cut short.
“You will hear the truth from Olivia in due course and she will be back on your screens in the new year.”
Despite the cryptic message,The Sun reports Attwood’s abrupt exit was due to medical reasons.
A representative for the show told the publication: “As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo some medical checks.
“Unfortunately the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be a further investigation.
“She has been absolutely brilliant and she’ll be very much missed on the show.”
The publication further claims that the former Love Island contestant will still be getting paid her full fee, rumoured to be between $177,000 and $222,000.
The hugely popular UK version of the long-running show – which premiered overseas on Sunday night and also stars Boy George and Mike Tindall – has returned to its traditional filming location at a rainforest in rural NSW for 2022, after Covid saw it stationed in Wales for two years.
It is hosted by popular British personalities, Anthony ‘Ant’ McPartlin and Declan ‘Dec’ Donnelly.
Meanwhile, Australia’s version of I’m A Celebrity, hosted by Julia Morris and Chris Brown, will return to screens in Easter next year.
And after two years filming locally, the ninth season is officially returning to the South African jungle.
