Beau Ryan has revealed his breaking point before deciding to quit I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here, confessing he cornered a possum and attempted to eat it.

The former rugby league player turned TV star was seen tapping out of the jungle on Thursday night’s episode in emotional scenes as he declared he missed his wife and their two children.

“I can’t gain anything else from this show. Call it what you like, but my journey here’s over. I’m a celebrity, get me out of here, and I’ll see you on the other side,” he told his shocked campmates.

In an interview on Triple M Breakfast with MG, Jess and Pagey this morning, the 36-year-old made the bizarre revelation that he went full Lord of the Flies before his exit from the show as severe hunger took over.

“When I lost the plot on the 12th or 13th day, I was that hungry. We didn’t get lunch that day,” Ryan began. “I cornered a possum down in the corner of the jungle and I remember saying to Poh, ‘What can you do with possum?’”

He added: “She was like, ‘Not much.’ And I said, ‘Can we eat it?’ And she said, ‘I can do something with it.’”

Producers were forced to quickly intervene before the animal was harmed.

“Then over the PA they were like ‘Beau, step away from the possum.’ And I thought, ‘I’ve gotta get out of this show,’” he added.

On several occasions throughout filming Ryan said he had attempted to bribe camera workers for food, where the crew were hiding in rocks.

“They’re not allowed to talk to you, and I’m like ‘Man I need a banana, I’ll get $5000 for your family as soon as I get out go put a banana behind that rock.’

“I remember one night I could smell Mexican behind the rocks. Nathan Buckley and I went down there and were like, ‘We know you’ve got Mexican, can you put a burrito to the side and we’re all good.’ Then we heard them laughing. I thought, ‘I can’t handle this.’”

Ryan became only the fourth person in eight seasons of I’m A Celeb Australia to say the words and quit the show, following fellow sports stars Bernard Tomic and Anthony Mundine and comedian Mel Buttle.

He further opened up about his decision to quit during his radio interview, saying he was in a “dark place” without his usual outlets of family and exercise.

“I was a bit anxious about it, I don’t really get anxious and nervous about stuff but I’m actually happy it’s over,” he said.

“The day I left, some days you wake up feeling good and some days not good, and I’d had three or four days in a row where I didn’t do a trial. They kept keeping me away from trials just to break me.

“When it’s just you vs you, you go to this dark place. I just had this moment hit me saying, ‘You should go.”
