It was just moments after Beau Ryan stunned his campmates by walking out on I’m a Celeb that he realised his shocking decision had come with a hefty price tag — of around $200,000.

Ryan abruptly quit the show in Thursday night’s episode, just days out from the finale, leaving the rest of the celebrity cast reeling.

Speaking on Triple M’s Rush Hour with Wendell, Jude and Gus on Friday afternoon, Ryan revealed it wasn’t until his manager called him that he realised his decision to leave meant he’d have $200,000 docked from his pay to appear on the show.

He confirmed his pay was in the form of a “top-up” on his existing contract with Network Ten.

“I was pretty lucky – being at Channel 10, I’ve got a deal with Channel 10 and obviously they top you up or whatever to go on the show,” Ryan said.

“But I didn’t realise until I got back to quarantine and I spoke to my manager, after I spoke to my family, and he was like, ‘No worries mate, that’s just cost you $200,000’.

“So working it out, if I’d stayed those last five days — I sort of wish I’d hung around.

“But I knew what headspace I was in.”

Ryan also dismissed reports he had clashed with campmate Nathan Buckley after learning the AFL great was being paid $300,000 to appear on I’m a Celeb.

“There was no talk about money whatsoever, not in any circles I was in,” he said.

Ryan explained his decision to leave the show in a series of explosive interviews on Friday, in which he revealed he “hated” the experience and knew when it was time to get out.

“I left at midnight on a Monday and then the last day was on the Friday. And they the final six would have had a Saturday together and flew back so it was four or five days,” he told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa on-air on Friday.

“It was torture … hated it.”

Asked what the worst part of experience was, Ryan revealed that hunger had worn away at him but there was one day in particular that “broke” him, when he was eager to participate in a trial but instead producers made an announcement to the contestants.

“They came down and said today is a no filming day so we‘re not actually using today … and that broke me. It really broke me,” he said.

“I felt really bad on myself. I was really upset with myself. At the end of the day, man, I couldn’t get through it.”
