Winners of Dream Home 2024 revealed in nail biting finale

The winners of Channel 7’s new renovation show, Dream Home, have revealed what they plan to do with their massive $100,000 cash prize.

Queensland-based brothers Rhys and Liam Almond unveiled their incredible tropical backyard background during the finale on Tuesday night, scoring an impressive 37.5 out of 40 from the judges.

Speaking to 7news.com.au in the wake of their triumph, the pair explained that they were planning to continue their renovation streak with a brand-new project.

“We’re looking to sell our current renovated home on the [Sunshine] Coast to buy a new renovation project, and I’m planning to spend some much-needed family time without the stress of bringing in some income for a little while,” Rhys said.

Liam added: “We’d like to find another reno (renovation) project and also just focusing on our next milestones in life, like getting married and having another baby.”

Rhys also described the money as “life-changing”.

“Taking $100,000 off my mortgage is going to be life-changing for myself and my family,” Rhys said of the prize money.

“That means the world to me.”

The judges were gushing in their praise of the brothers’ work during the inaugural season of Seven’s new series.

“Boys, I felt like I’d stepped into a complete oasis. You absolutely created a tropical dream out there, perfect for a Queensland setting,” Lana Taylor of Three Birds Renovations described it.

Buyers’ agent Simon Cohen added that the “whole separate living area” was “a massive tick for any family home,” while interior designer Rosie Morley told them the layout all “worked in harmony”.

Rosie loved the pavilion’s scale in relation to the home, saying it all “worked in harmony”.

It comes after three teams were eliminated during the semi-final the night before – Brad and Mel, Hannah and Jonny, and Jacinta and Jordan – after they failed to achieve high enough scores for the final episode.

The three teams that accumulated the highest scores throughout the season and made it to the final were Lara and Peter, Taeler and Elle and Rhys and Liam.

One final challenge – the coveted backyard transformations – remained, and while all the teams delivered some impressive results, in the end only one pair could take home the $100,000 prize.

Lara and Peter worked tirelessly to extend their Mediterranean-style interiors into their backyard and add a pool for their children.

Before the winners were announced, presenter Dr Chris Brown revealed the judges wouldn’t be the only ones picking the winner, and that this year’s failed teams would also be casting their votes alongside the judges.

As the scores were unveiled, it was revealed that Taeller and Elly had scored a total of 31/40 to land in third place. It was then down to Lara and Peter and Rhys and Liam to battle it out for the win. In the end it was Rhys and Liam who tipped the scales with 37.5 compared to Lara and Peter’s 37.

Speaking of their win, Rhys gushed: “Liam and I put everything into this. And it’s all paid off. It’s gonna be life-changing and it means the world to me.”

“Can’t believe that we did it,” yelled Liam as the cast grouped around the pair to celebrate with them.
