Winners of Dream Home 2024 revealed in nail biting finale

The winners of this year’s series of Channel 7’s Dream Home have finally been revealed during a nailbiting finale that saw the culmination of months of tireless work, as well as a flurry of baffled tweets from viewers.

Last night, Dream Home’s semi-final episode saw three teams eliminated - Brad and Mel, Hannah and Jonny, and Jacinta and Jordan - after they failed to achieve high enough scores for the final episode.

The three teams that accumulated the highest scores throughout the season and made it to the final were Lara and Peter, Taeler and Elle and Rhys and Liam.

One final challenge – the coveted backyard transformations – remained, and while all the teams delivered some impressive results, in the end only one pair could take home the $100,000 prize.

Lara and Peter worked tirelessly to extend their Mediterranean-style interiors into their backyard and add a pool for their children.

With a gigantic backyard, it was Rhys and Liam who arguably had the most work to do, while sisters Taeler and Elle left viewers baffled by trying to include a river.

“A river? With kids around??? Stupid idea. Kids can drown in 5cm of water!” ranted one viewer, with others agreeing.

“The sisters’ river idea is absolute bulls**t. I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous in a house with small children and a dog!”

Another poked fun at the notion, tweeting: “That trickle in the backyard river sounds like someone’s taking a p**s!”

The judges were equally unimpressed, telling the duo that it “looked fake” and like “walking onto a set”, before going on to label the entire ventue as “dangerous” to walk around.

Before the winners were announced, presenter Dr Chris Brown revealed the judges wouldn’t be the only ones picking the winner, and that this year’s failed teams would also be casting their votes alongside the judges.

In the end, it was Ryhs and Liam who walked away with the win. Picture: 7.

As the scores were unveiled, it was revealed that Taeller and Elly had scored a total of 31/40 to land in third place. It was then down to Lara and Peter and Rhys and Liam to battle it out for the win. In the end it was Rhys and Liam who tipped the scales with 37.5 compared to Lara and Peter’s 37.

Speaking of their win, Rhys gushed: “Liam and I put everything into this. And it’s all paid off. It’s gonna be life-changing and it means the world to me.”

“Can’t believe that we did it,” yelled Liam as the cast grouped around the pair to celebrate with them.
