Block couple Kristy and Brett roasted over ‘disaster’ room reveal

The judges had one word for this disaster of a room reveal – “NOPE” – while Scott Cam dissed the couple for giving up on their room.

Controversial Block couple Kristy and Brett copped a telling-off from both the judges and host Scott Cam on Sunday’s episode, when they presented an unfinished bathroom.

The couple had chosen the bathroom as their “re-do room” – a chance for all contestants to have another crack at perfecting a room that had previously been criticised by the judges earlier in the competition.

All they had to do to appease the judges was tile over an arch in the room, but instead Brett removed the tiles on the shower’s back wall, which compromised the waterproofing – a very costly mistake to rectify.

From there, they basically gave up for the week, deciding the job was too hard and resigning themselves to presenting a construction site rather than a room.

That decision earned them a very salty voiceover from Cam.

“In true Block tradition, when times are tough and the chips are down, you can do one of two things: You can knuckle down and fix the problem, or you can do what Kristy and Brett did last night … and go to the footy,” he said.

The criticisms continued when the judges entered their room. Darren Palmer opened the door, took one look at the room, announced “NOPE,” and slammed the door again.

Kristy and Brett had put some post-it notes on the door explaining what had gone on during the week – judge Shaynna Blaze pulled them off and threw them in the bin without reading them.

“I don’t want to know about it. I don’t want excuses,” she fumed.

Cam estimated that had they just made the simple changes that the judges wanted the job may have taken “four hours maybe, and cost $500”.

Instead, they’d torn their room apart and caused themselves a very costly fix.

As Neale Whittaker noted: “What we’ve ended up with is a disaster.”

While Kristy and brett did come a distant last in the judging, their respectable effort with the second bathroom they were also presenting gave them a score of 18.5, while their season-long rivals Eliza and Liberty came first with 27.5 points.
