WARNING: Australian Survivor spoilers below.

Injured Australian Survivor contestant Alex Frost made an unprecedented move during Monday’s episode, begging his tribemates to put him out of his misery and vote him out of the game.

The younger brother to Bachelorette and Home And Away star Sam Frost – who entered the game alongside his sister’s ex-boyfriend, Jay Bruno – had been struggling since early on this season, when he suffered a mystery back injury on the way to compete in a challenge.

Since then, he’s been in pain and at times immobile – as his tribemates debated whether or not to vote him out of the game.

By Monday’s tribal council, it all became too much and Frost delivered a surprsing plea to his fellow contestants, all competing for the chance to win $500,000.

It came at the tail of tribal council, as host Jonathan LaPaglia told the players it was time to vote and called Alex to cast the first vote.

Instead, he hesitated, putting his head in his hands.

“Going into tonight, I had a pretty big decision on my mind. That decision is that... I want to be voted out. I want you guys to collectively vote me out.”

Frost said that his back pain had been wearing on him “mentally and physically”: “It’s killing me,” he said.

It should’ve made for an easy vote – but Frost’s tribemates refused to grant his wish, preferring to stick with their original voting plan and encouraging him to stay in the game.

He looked defeated, so LaPaglia reminded him that players are free to leave Survivor at any time, and don’t have to rely on their fellow contestants to vote them out.

“Alex, if this is really that painful for you, no-one is expected to stay in the game if they don’t want to,” he told him. “What’s your decision?”
“I need to leave,” said Frost.

With tearful hugs all around, Frost was then able to immediately leave the game – his exit meaning the rest of the tribe would not go to a vote with all remaining players staying safe from elimination for now. .

Frost and Bruno were perhaps the most unusual pairing in this season’s Blood Vs. Water twist, which saw each contestant enter the game with a loved one, such as a sibling or partner.

This season orf Survivor filmed in Queensland in October and November of last year, when Bruno was still dating Frost’s reality TV star sister, Sam.

But shortly after that, the couple parted ways, with Melbourne-based personal trainer Bruno revealing in January that he “couldn’t see a future” with the Sydney-based star.

Australian Survivor: Blood Vs. Water continues 7:30pm Tuesday on Ten.
