Survivor contestant Mat Rogers hits out: ‘The last few episodes have been boring’

The latest Survivor evictee has slammed the tribemates who voted him out, saying he’s been bored watching the show from home.

One blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the final seconds of last night’s Survivor episode had some viewers scratching their heads.

With Survivor fave Mat Rogers the latest player booted from the game, viewers were quickly shown who voted for him.

Among them, Flick Eggington — who wrote ‘Mat the Rat’ for her vote. Huh? Flick and Mat had beef? Some questioned what seemed like an unusually savage dig:

While Mat was still smarting from his elimination when he spoke to news.com.au this morning, he explained there was no malice in Flick’s choice of nickname.

“That’s been my nickname since I was 16. Anyone who actually knows me… and Flick doesn’t, she never called me that, but it’s tattooed on me,” he said.

Poor Mat didn’t stand a chance of sticking around on Survivor: All-Stars after last week’s tribe swap separated him from his core alliance members.

The former rugby player, 44, echoed the sentiments of the player ousted before him, John Eastoe — both sharing frustration at the all-too-predictable gameplay of their tribemates, sticking to an alliance dominated by Locky and Brooke.

“We had everything set up to shift the power; it would have made the game so much more exciting... It’s a bit of a letdown, really. I was frustrated in the game, but even more frustrated watching it back. It was so basic: ‘Oh lets vote Johnny out, let’s vote Mat out’ – plays were there to be made, and nobody wanted to make them. I didn’t think it was very All-Star,” he said.

“To sit and watch it unfold the last few episodes has been boring. Knowing what was coming, it’s been predictable and frustrating. I expected a few more movers and shakers in All-Stars, but nobody wanted to get off their hands.”

Attempting to take the heat off himself during last night’s tribal, Mat suggested the tribe should send a “sneaky” player home — in particular, Harry.

“Tonight’s a defining moment for everyone. For me, I could go home. For them, they could make a huge play and keep me in the game. That next challenge is where things are going to turn for us, and I think I can do that. Think about the next challenge when you go to vote,” he said.

His speech did seem to get some of his tribemates thinking — Flick admitted she was “still trying to decide” whether it was a wise decision to vote out Mat given he was “a big asset in this game.”

But Mat’s pleas were in vain, and he was voted out of the game.

“Mat offered you all a deal, which none of you took. Time will tell if that becomes a half-million dollar mistake,” host Jonathan LaPaglia told the tribe after Rogers’ torch had been snuffed.

Speaking on camera after his elimination, Rogers had a dire prediction for the tribemates who’d just turned on him.

“Chaos will reign. They’ll lose challenges and all be working against each other, all trying to pull each other apart. They will be destroyed once the remaining faction gets to merge.”

Survivor: All-Stars continues 7:30pm Tuesday on Ten.
