Australian Survivor favourite Shonee booted off the show in shock twist

One of Survivor’s best-loved players was booted off the show in Sunday’s episode, the result of a massive twist nobody saw coming.

Australian Survivor dropped a massive twist in the penultimate episode of this season on Sunday night, with one contestant sent packing – from the jury.

The final four players – Liz, George, Matt and Gerry – arrived at the latest challenge to some unexpected news: They wouldn’t be playing for immunity, but for an extra vote at tribal council.

Matt won the challenge, after which host Jonathan LaPaglia revealed yet another twist: They wouldn’t be voting out one of their own at tribal council that night. Instead, they’d be voting someone out of the jury.

“I know, it’s a lot to process,” JLP told the final four, who were clearly struggling to wrap their heads around the twist and what it meant for their gameplay.

It meant all were safe for this episode, and all needed to choose a member of the jury least likely to vote for them to win if they made it to the final.

With a top three in the finale and only seven jury members, “you can win this game with only three votes,” George pointed out.

At tribal council, LaPaglia got to deliver the “big twist” all over again, informing the jury that one of them would be voted out and would have to leave immediately. No more jury villa for that person, and more importantly, no chance to have a say in which of the remaining players would win the $500,000 prize.

As the final four had deliberated, two names kept coming up: Liz and George were gunning for Simon, both knowing they’d struggle to win his vote due to their bumpy histories with him in the game. Matt – with his two votes – wanted Shonee, knowing that she’d vote for Liz and George over him. Gerry was an undecided swing, right until it was time to cast his vote.

In the end, only Liz voted for Simon, with George flipping to Shonee last minute when he realised the numbers weren’t in his favour. Both Matt and Gerry also voted for Shonee.

It made for a typically hilarious Shonee exit, as she approached JLP – without a torch for him to snuff.

“I just cruise on out?” she asked, as she sauntered past him.

The twist sends four people into Monday’s season finale, with three set to sit in front of the jury and plead their case to be the winner of the $500,000 prize.

This season of Australian Survivor concludes 7:30pm Monday on Ten.
