Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines reveals gruesome injury after on set collapse
Marcia Hines reappeared for the finale of Australian Idol on Monday night and showcased her facial injury after her dramatic backstage collapse.
Marcia Hines has shown off the dramatic impact of her fall backstage on Australian Idol after returning to the judges’ seat for Monday night’s finale.
“I feel fine,” Hines, 70, assured viewers at the beginning of the show. “I want to thank everybody who reached out towards me, you know. I do appreciate it. And you guys need to know – I couldn’t have missed this for the world. I couldn’t have.”
However, she explained that she’d sustained a cut on her forehead that had required stitches.
After fellow judge Kyle Sandilands urged her to “show us your gash!”, Hines briefly lifted her hair to reveal the injury, before adding that she was returning to hospital after show wrapped.
“I got stitches and everything. It is all good. I’m good. I go back to the hospital tonight. I’m going back,” she said.
Earlier, the singer took to the official Australian Idol Instagram page to update fans and thank them for their support, telling them she was “feeling much better”.
The Idol veteran was taken to hospital on Sunday after collapsing in her dressing room ahead of the show, which is filmed at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre in Rooty Hill.
“Marcia had a medical emergency and was rushed to hospital,” a production source said at the time.
Following her collapse, Hines shared a message on social media — updating her almost 40,000 followers that she had been feeling “a little unwell”.
“I’m very sorry that I’m not there with you all tonight,” Hines shared to her Instagram on Sunday night.
“It’s been a big few days of work and I was feeling a little unwell. I’m resting up now so I can be back with you all tomorrow night.”
Meanwhile, the finale wrapped up with Dylan Wright crowned as the 2024 winner, triumphing over Denvah Baker-Moller and Amy Reeves.
Wright had blown the judges and audience away week after week with his impressive performances, and over the last week betting odds had made him the clear favourite.
Celebrating his win, the emotional singer gushed: “I’m about to cry! So, thanks!”
Wright walked away with a recording contract with industry giant Sony Music Entertainment Australia and $100,000 in prize money.
