‘Worst experience I’ve had in the media’: Chrissie Swan reveals worst celebrity interviews

Radio personality Chrissie Swan has opened up about the worst celebrity interviews and interactions she’s had in her career.

Hot on the heels of Sharon Osbourne and Miriam Margolyes revealing their worst celebrity encounters ever comes Chrissie Swan’s own admissions.

Inspired by Osbourne claiming Ashton Kutcher is a “rude little boy” and Margolyes telling news.com.au that Steve Martin was “rather horrid” to work with, Swan opened up about the worst celebrity interviews and interactions she’s had in her career.

Speaking on her Nova program, The Chrissie Swan Show, on Monday afternoon, the 49-year-old recalled being disappointed after meeting iconic British rock band Duran Duran a few years ago.

“Obviously, I love people and talking to people and getting their story. So almost every interview I’ve ever done has merit,” she told anchor Jack Charles.

“But I do remember there’s two that stick out that were really bad. One was with my childhood icons, Duran Duran, that was an excruciating interview. And two of the members were really rude to me. I just left there feeling like nothing.”

When Charles brought up the old adage: “Never meet your idols”, Swan agreed as she was a Duran Duran superfan.

“It is true, isn’t it? Well, it can be true, because I have met other idols like Lily Tomlin and Gina Davis and Debbie Harry and Sarah Jessica Parker. And they were all wonderful,” she replied.

“But Duran Duran, they really belittled me and I just felt like a big loser.”

To make things worse, Swan had told the band she was a massive fan yet they still continued to make her feel less than, which she said was “even more unkind”.

The radio personality also opened up about her worst encounters on the local front, revealing it was former AFL footballer Sam Newman for her.

“He was hands down the worst experience I’ve had in the media,” she said on air.

Charles recalled the interview and said it got so bad, Swan had to walk out of the Melbourne studio.

“I remember you walking out of the studio, out of the station, and I was like where’s Swany gone?” he shared. “And we couldn’t even air the audio.”

Swan says interviewing Sam Newman was the “worst experience I’ve had in the media”.

The Bachelor star Nick Cummins apparently refused to take his air pods out.

Swan concluded: “It was absolutely the worst by far. By far. It was terrible. It was a terrible, terrible situation and so unusual in my career to feel so attacked. It was terrible. Terrible.”

As for Charles, his worst celebrity interaction was with former rugby union player and The BachelorAustralia star Nick Cummins, aka The Honey Badger.

“The worst I didn’t even interview was when I was producing Chrissie, Sam & Brownie,” he shared. “He refused to take his air pods out to speak to one of our other producers. And as he walked through the hallways of the studio just would not speak to anyone, even his publicist, before going in with you guys.”

Swan offered a sympathetic ear, saying: “You know, harking back to what I said earlier, people are going through things and you just don’t know what. And I remember that was a very bad time of his life and didn’t want to do any publicity.”
