Ex-AFL player and media personality Sam Newman has furiously hit back after being branded by the radio host as her “worst” interview.

Chrissie Swan reveals worst celebrity interviews

Former AFL player and media personality Sam Newman has furiously hit back at Chrissie Swan, after she branded an interview with him as the “worst experience” in her career.

The Nova radio host shared details of her least-favourite celebrity encounters on The Chrissie Swan Show on Monday afternoon, with her producer, Jack Charles, revealing that Swan was so turned off during an interview with Newman that she actually left the studio.

“I remember you walking out of the studio, out of the station, and I was like where’s Swanny gone?” Charles said. “And we couldn’t even air the audio.”

The Masked Singer judge said the interview with Newman – which happened when she was co-host of Melbourne’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny breakfast show – was “absolutely the worst” by far.

“It was terrible. It was a terrible, terrible situation and so unusual in my career to feel so attacked. It was terrible. Terrible.”

Speaking to news.com.au in the wake of Swan’s comments, Newman did not hold back, describing the Nova star’s decision to walk out of their interview as “unprofessional”.

“What a coward to ask someone to come in, then walk out of the studio about an opinion over a topic we were talking about,” he said.

“I just gave my opinion and she walked out, how unprofessional. What a coward.”

Newman also put forth his opinion on why the interview never made it to air back in the day.

“I have no doubt they [Nova] didn’t put it to air because they didn’t want to embarrass her, I never abused her, she was out to get to me,” he said.

“I was asked to come in. If you’re going to invite a guest in to help make your show a success, have the courtesy and the class not to have a predisposition to whom you’re speaking to in the first place.

“She said she felt attacked – so she should have, for her preposterous position on topical affairs that we spoke about … and she demonstrated how irrelevant and insignificant she is.”

Newman finished up by calling Swan – who’s had a 20-year career in media – an “untalented person, clinging to any vestige of fame.”

Nova declined to comment when contacted by news.com.au and it remains unclear what topic the pair were discussing when the interview went sour.

During the radio segment on Monday, Swan also outed the band Duran Duran as unpleasant, admitting she’d been disappointed after meeting her “childhood icons”.

“Obviously, I love people and talking to people and getting their story, so almost every interview I’ve ever done has merit,” she explained.

“But I do remember there’s two that stick out that were really bad. One was with my childhood icons, Duran Duran. That was an excruciating interview. Two of the members were really rude to me. I just left there feeling like nothing.

“They really belittled me and I just felt like a big loser,” she said.
