Kyle Sandilands slams radio rumour: ‘It’s bulls**t’
Kyle Sandilands was not impressed when he heard a rumour doing the rounds about his radio show, insisting it was “not true”.
Kyle Sandilands has shot down a claim made by one of his former radio bosses, describing it as “bulls**t!”
Craig Bruce, who worked with Kyle and Jackie O when they broadcast on 2Day FM, claimed in a news.com.au article published on Tuesday that “ARN, the parent company of Kyle and Jackie O, have set up a complaints department in preparation for the show starting in Melbourne on April 29.”
Kyle responded to the allegation on KIIS FM on Wednesday morning, telling listeners: “That’s bulls**t. That’s not true!”
He added: “We own this brand. Nothing happens without us knowing.”
Jackie O wasn’t so sure though.
“I read it and thought, ‘well, I haven’t heard that, but then it could be true,’” she said on air.
An ARN spokesperson told news.com.au: “As always we value listener feedback, however the suggestion we have set up a new team to manage this is incorrect.”
In the news.com.au article, Mr Bruce also wrote that he had recently listened to Kyle and Jackie O’s show and was shocked to hear references to anal sex, Kyle’s penis, and masturbation.
He described the content as “extreme” and “toe-curling”.
“It’s content that is on the very edge of acceptable broadcast standards (and some would say it is well past the edge),” Mr Bruce wrote.
“Not all of their content is like this - but enough of it is.
“It’s actually quite shocking how far they’ve managed to push the boundaries,” he wrote.
Surprisingly, Jackie agreed with Mr Bruce’s comments, saying on air on Wednesday: “He makes a good point. I did read that part and think, ‘yeah, I’m surprised too that we’re allowed to get away with the things we say.’”
After months of build up, The Kyle and Jackie O Show will start broadcasting on Melbourne radio next week, with other cities possibly to follow.
“Make no mistake, I want the whole country,” Kyle recently told students from The University of Southern Queensland.
“To me, Melbourne is a test and if we do well I’m gonna push real hard to get it everywhere.”
The Kyle and Jackie O Show is the number one FM breakfast show in Sydney, and Kyle thinks they can achieve the same feat in Melbourne.
“I don’t think it’ll be straight away, it’ll take a few surveys to crack them … but by the end of the year, yes,’’ he told the Herald Sun last month.
The pair will certainly have their work cut out for them, with some of the country’s strongest breakfast shows broadcasting from Melbourne.
Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick Show is the current FM market leader in the city, followed by The Christian O’Connell Show on Gold FM and Nova’s Jase and Lauren.
