Kyle and Jackie O to return to 2Day FM?

A RECENT report claimed the radio duo had been offered an absurd amount to return to 2Day FM. This morning, Kyle and Jackie O set the record straight.

KYLE and Jackie O have responded to rumours they’ve been offered $10 million each to return to their old radio network.

A report in The Daily Telegraph on the weekend claimed that Southern Cross Austereo is desperate to get the popular duo back on air at 2Day FM, after Kyle and Jackie O defected to rival station Kiis 1065 at the end of 2013 and took the majority of their listeners with them.

But speaking on air this morning, the radio hosts emphatically ruled out ever returning to their former home.

“Let me just go on record saying, ‘I would never go back to Austereo even if they gave me the radio station’,” said Kyle.

“If they said, ‘Here, you own it now,’ I would say, ‘No thanks’.”

Jackie O added that the pair hasn’t even received an offer from Southern Cross Austereo, let alone an outrageous $10 million fee.

“I haven’t had any contact from them,” she said.

And in typical Kyle style, he couldn’t resist a cheeky comment about the current 2Day FM breakfast hosts, Rove and Sam.

Rove allegedly has a three-year contract with Southern Cross Austereo.
Rove allegedly has a three-year contract with Southern Cross Austereo.

“We’re not going back there,” he said, “They’ve got Rove and Sam. Isn’t that doing well for them!”

It’s not the first time Kyle’s dissed Rove McManus and Sam Frost on air.

Two weeks ago he suggested The Bachelorette star would be sacked at some stage this year due to poor ratings.

“Rove will stay for at least a year,” said Kyle.

“They will blame that poor girl for the ratings so they will replace her. She doesn’t have the radio skills. She is a sweetheart and a lovely thing but they will keep blaming people until they realise it [low ratings] keeps happening.”

The controversial radio host wasn’t as complimentary of Rove though, with whom he has had a public feud in the past.

“Where they have gone wrong with Rove is he just doesn’t translate on radio … the problem is most of his humour is in his facial expression and you don’t see it,” he said.

Kyle and Jackie O are currently the number one FM breakfast show in Sydney with a 10.1 per cent audience share, followed by WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda (7.2) and Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa (7.1).

Rove and Sam, who are still finding their feet after only starting on air in November last year, are currently rating 3.0.
