Kyle Sandilands takes aim at radio rivals Rove & Sam Frost
SANDILANDS has spoken out about his radio rivals, issuing a gloomy prediction about the future of their fledgling show.
Kyle Sandilands has spoken publicly for the first time about his rival radio hosts Rove McManus and Sam Frost, issuing a dire prediction about the future of their 2DayFM radio show.
Speaking on his 106.5 radio show, Sandilands said he thought former Bachelor and Bachelorette star Sam Frost would be given the boot before too long.
“Rove will stay for at least a year. They will blame that poor girl for the ratings so they will replace her,” he said.
Sandilands told listeners he had tuned in to 20 minutes of Rove and Sam’s program last week — and gave this verdict of the reality star-turned-radio host’s performance in her new job:
“She doesn’t have the radio skills. She is a sweetheart and a lovely thing but they will keep blaming people until they realise it [low ratings] keeps happening.”
He was less charitable with his appraisal of Rove’s skills — not surprising, as the pair reportedly have a longtime feud, with Kyle taking frequent pot shots at TV’s Mr Nice Guy:
“Where they have gone wrong with Rove is he just doesn’t translate on radio … the problem is most of his humour is in his facial expression and you don’t see it,” he said.
Kyle did say that Rove would be more likely to remain with the show than Sam, given he “signed a $3 million deal” with Austereo.
KIIS FM’s Intern Pete also piped up during Kyle and Jackie O’s discussion, alleging that he was approached by their rivals during the holiday break with an offer to jump ship.
“They approached me on the break to see if I would make the switch,’ he said.
The unlikely pairing of TV veteran McManus with reality show upstart Frost was announced with much fanfare in October, with the pair making their radio debut on November 9.
So far, they haven’t presented a credible threat to radio stalwarts Kyle and Jackie O: Their KIIS program topped the final radio ratings for 2015, while Rove and Sam’s drivetime slot dipped 0.2 per cent, equating to a drop from joint 10th to 11th place in the ratings.
