Deb Knight reveals shock cancer diagnosis

Australian broadcaster Deb Knight left listeners to her 2GB radio station stunned yesterday when she revealed she’d been diagnosed with skin cancer.

“It is not the best news,” the mum-of-three and popular TV personality told listeners.

Knight, 48, said a biopsy on her nose had revealed a “small cancer” which would have to be removed.

“I got my results from the bioscopy on the bump on my nose that my dermatologist was worried about,” she began.

“I told (fellow 2GB host) Ray (Hadley) about it when I had the big whopping band aid on my nose about this time last week … well it is not the best news. It is a small basal cell carcinoma.

“So, it’s a small cancer and it’s nodular which means I’ve got to get it cut out. I’ve got to go under the knife. I’ve got to actually get it cut out,” she said.

Knight assured listeners the cancer was “not spreading” and “not urgent”, but would be removed within the next few weeks.

She said the resulting scar “might make for an interesting sight” during her TV job hosting A Current Affair.

She said she hoped it served as a reminder to everyone to regularly have their skin checked.

“I know we’re always being reminded to get our skin checked regularly and to wear sunscreen to cover up when we’re in the sun, but is so important and I just want to be a living reminder to that,” she told listeners.

“Get your skin checked, because we can’t afford not to in Australia. We are the skin cancer capital of the world.”

Fellow Australian TV personality Deborah Hutton last year revealed the brutal aftermath of surgeries to remove two skin cancers from her face, admitting she’d “ummed and aahed” about publicly sharing the facial scarring from her own cancer surgery.
