Amanda Keller has broken down in tears on-air this morning as she issued a heartfelt plea to her sons.

The 60-year-old Sydney radio co-host opened up about her recent struggles on WSFM 101.7’s Jonesy & Amanda on Friday, with her two boys, Liam and Jack, both now living on campus at their respective universities.

While the Gold Logie nominee admitted she was stoked her children were “living these amazing years”, she said she was finding the distance difficult.

“I want my kids to take every moment out of it, even if it means they don’t live with me, and I find that really hard,” Keller began, before choking up.

She then played audio from a TikTok she found that tugged at her heartstrings, in which a US man is heard pleading with his followers to “call your mum”.

“You worried about something? Call your mum. You got in trouble and need someone to come pick you up? Call your mum. It’s 3am? Call your mum. That’s the gift you have in your life. Don’t waste that gift,” the man says in TikTok video.

Keller said she sent the video to her sons, sharing a giggle with her co-host Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones as she claimed they didn’t get back to her.

“[But] the moral of that for me is that it makes me think about my mum, and how I don’t have my mum anymore for all that stuff,” Keller said.

“Also I reckon the boys probably heard, ‘Call your mum, call your mum’ without probably getting to the end of that story, which is, ‘Here’s why she loves you so much.’”

The long-running presenter is known to shed a little tear on-air, more recently, when covering news of the Texas primary school shooting.

“Elementary school is primary school, ages 5 to 10. Fourteen children, dead. And this is America, who at the moment are fighting for abortion rights, so that even if you’re raped, you cannot abort that child,” Keller said through tears in May.

“But right-to-lifers don’t give a rats about children from the minute they’re born. That you can allow an elementary school kid just to turn up at school and be shot … What awful news this morning.”

Elsewhere, Keller is going through another big change in her life, having revealed in October that The Living Room was going on hiatus in 2023.

“Well, I’ve said I’ve got a big announcement … it’s about The Living Room. It’s going to be rested next year,” she said.

“It’s felt that it’s time to take a breath. We’ve been on air for 11 years, 30 [episodes] a year is a lot to produce. So we’re going to take a breath … and take next year off.”

Keller insisted it would be back in 2024.
