2DayFM hosts Rove McManus and Sam Frost dumped from breakfast radio
2DAYFM has once again swung the axe through its struggling Sydney breakfast show, announcing Rove McManus and Sam Frost won’t return in 2017.
2DAYFM has once again swung the axe through its struggling Sydney breakfast show, announcing Rove McManus and Sam Frost will not be returning to the coveted slot in 2017.
Southern Cross Austereo sent out a press release on Friday, announcing that Em Rusciano and Harley Breen will be taking over from January 23rd.
According to the network’s head of content, Gemma Fordham, the duo were popular with listeners when they were trialled over the summer break.
“The feedback we’ve received around Em and Harley has been incredible,” she said.
“Nothing is off limits and Em connects with her audience brilliantly, her humour and honesty is obviously what’s driven her to have a combined social media following of over 350,000 and we look forward to Em and Harley waking up Sydney each day.”
It follows a difficult year for the now-deposed Rove and Sam Show, which — like their predecessors Dan and Maz and Jules, Merrick and Sophie Monk — failed to gain any significant ground after the shock defection of The Kyle and Jackie O Show to KIISFM.
In last year’s final radio survey, Rove and Sam claimed just 3.8% audience share and fell to 10th place overall - their lowest score in over six months.
McManus and Frost will now move to a nightly national show, airing Monday to Friday from 7-8pm, from January 30th.
The decision was made after the radio hosts and executives took time off over summer, and concluded that “the best route forward for all was to move their show into another timeslot”.
Of the shift, McManus claims he is looking forward to continuing to work with Frost in 2017, but at “a more civilised time of day”.
For her part, Frost hinted she was pursuing other gigs outside of the radio industry.
“I’m pleased to move on with my friend Rove to our next gig, as well as undertake other commitments outside of radio.”
It’s been a tough few weeks for former Bachelorette star, who announced in December that she had split with her partner of 18 months, Sasha Mielczarek.
McManus and Frost’s successors know they’re in for a tough slog to lift ratings for the gruelling breakfast timeslot — but Rusciano says she’s “excited and terrified” to launch The Em Rusciano Show with Harley Breen.
“I love radio, I’ve been in and out and in and out again for 12 years! This job is the holy grail, the philosopher’s stone — the one ring of Mordor!”
She added: “I’m bringing along one of my favourite comics and humans: Harley Breen.”
