‘Tough day’: Studio 10 hosts announce the show’s been axed
After dwindling ratings in 2023, Network Ten has announced one of its staple programs will not be back next year.
Network Ten’s Studio 10 has been axed after more than a decade on air.
The mid-morning program, which is currently featuring Narelda Jacobs, Angela Bishop, Tristan MacManus and Daniel Doody, will air its last episode on December 22.
Announcing the news in an Instagram video on Tuesday afternoon, MacManus and Bishop said it had been a “tough day” learning of the show’s fate.
“It’s a tough day for the whole Studio 10 family, because we have loved bringing you the show for the last 10 years,” said Bishop in the video.
“We’re all really proud to be part of it.
“To finish up, I’m going to pinch a quote: Don’t cry ‘cos it’s over, smile because it happened.”
News.com.au understands the program’s team was informed of the axing around lunch time on Tuesday.
A Ten spokesperson said in a statement: “Studio 10 has been a great contributor to Network Ten's daytime program line-up. We would like to sincerely thank all those who have participated in and supported the program over the past decade and to the millions of viewers who tuned in over that time.
“It has been a show that has provided copious amounts of feel-good fun, joy, passion, heart, entertainment, and unforgettable moments all against the backdrop of live television.
“Although we are sad to be farewelling the program, the decision to cease production of Studio 10 comes after a change in viewing habits in daytime television.”
The network said there would be a “new morning line-up” in 2024, with “an increased focus on news and current affairs later in the day.”
“The hosts of Studio 10 – Angela Bishop, Narelda Jacobs and Tristan MacManus, with special roving reporter Daniel Doody – will remain with the network in different roles and many of the staff will be redeployed,” the spokesperson added.
Studio 10 has suffered dwindling ratings in recent years, which worsened after former host Sarah Harris left to join The Project at the beginning of 2023.
The show copped its lowest viewership back in March with just 10,000 viewers recorded on the final Monday of the month.
A Ten spokesperson told news.com.au at the time there were no plans to cancel the program.
“Studio 10 is a staple in our daytime program schedule boasting fun, entertaining and engaging content led by a fantastic panel,” a spokesperson said to us in April.
The mid-morning schedule is a notoriously difficult timeslot to engage audiences.
Even with Harris at the helm, Studio 10 averaged just 31,000 viewers in 2022.
This year represented a huge period of change for the network, with a series of high-profile departures and format shake-ups.
Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar all announced they would be leaving The Project within weeks of one another late last year.
Dr Chris Brown fronted his final season of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!, and was recently replaced with Robert Irwin, who will make his TV hosting debut for the 2024 season alongside Julia Morris.
Meanwhile, it was announced last month Melissa Leong would not be returning for the upcoming season of MasterChef, which came months after the sudden death of Jock Zonfrillo.
Fellow judge Andy Allen will front up again next year, and will be joined by newcomers Poh Ling Yeow, journalist and food critic Sofia Levin and Michelin Star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.
