Tom Gleeson on the ‘Today’ show: ‘Where’s Karl?’
Tom Gleeson repeatedly asked about sacked co-host Karl Stefanovic during a hilarious appearance on the Today show this morning.
Today co-hosts Georgie Gardner and Deb Knight were right to be worried when Tom Gleeson sat down on the couch for an interview on the Channel 9 show this morning.
“You don’t really have a filter and things tend not to be off limits,” Knight said to the comedian at the start of his interview.
“I don’t know why you got me on here, it’s live TV and I can say whatever I want,” Gleeson replied.
And he didn’t waste any time.
Less than 30 seconds into his interview, Gleeson brought up Today’s taboo topic, Karl Stefanovic and he continued to reference the dumped host throughout his hilarious appearance.
“Where’s Karl?” Gleeson asked, prompting laughter from Gardner and Knight. “Where is he?” What have you done with Karl, Georgie?’
“I’ve eaten him,” Gardner joked.
“You ate him whole, did you?” Gleeson laughed. “Where is he literally? I want to go there after this.”
Knight replied, “There are a few paparazzi you can probably get the address from.”
The co-hosts managed to get the interview back on track and asked Gleeson about his popular Hard Chat segment and his new stand-up show, Joy.
But Gleeson wasn’t finished with his Stefanovic jokes.
The Today co-hosts each told Gleeson three things about themselves, two of which were true and one which was false, and challenged the comedian to pick the lie.
One of the options from Gardner was, “I rolled a ute when I was 16.”
“I could imagine Karl rolling a ute, just quietly,” Gleeson said.
“Maybe he was in the ute,” joked Gardner.
“An Uber driver was driving the ute,” the comedian replied, referencing Stefanovic’s infamous Ubergate drama.
As the co-hosts wrapped up the interview, Gleeson again asked where Stefanovic was and jokingly walked off the set in an attempt to find him.
“Karl? You can come out of retirement now. You’ve spent enough time on the bench,” he said as he walked around the studio.
Gardner and Knight were highly amused by Gleeson’s antics, with the latter saying, “We knew that was going to happen … who came up with that idea?”
