Roxy Jacenko: ‘It’s been a bitch of a year’

THIS year has been a shocker for Roxy Jacenko. She was diagnosed with cancer and her husband was sent to prison. But she’s still able to focus on the positives.

Roxy Jacenko opens up about life in the spotlight

ROXY Jacenko won’t be looking back on 2016 with the fondest of memories.

The 36-year-old PR powerhouse appeared on Today Extra this morning and spoke about the year that was and praised her husband Oliver Curtis, who is currently serving a two-year sentence for insider trading.

“He is as good as you can be in that environment,” she said.

“We are proud of him — he’s taken it on the chin and is getting on with it.”

Curtis’ sentence is just one factor in a year which Jacenko described to hosts Sonia Kruger and Ben Fordham as “a bitch”.

“Yes it’s tough, but I look at the positives ... I think the positives outweigh the negatives,” she told them.

“The reality is that everyone has challenges. Mine were compounded quickly in a period of four months ... it’s a year I thought I’d never, ever face.”

Jacenko was referring not only to her husband’s incarceration, but her breast cancer diagnosis in July for which she’s since undergone surgery.

“But at the same time I’ve got two amazing children, a business that’s amazing with great staff. I think I’m very lucky.”

Earlier this year, Jacenko revealed to The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she was depositing $100 weekly into her husband’s prison bank account so that he could purchase “buy-ups.”

The weekly buy-up list includes toiletries, chocolate, biscuits and savoury food snacks, and even extends to packaged meals like pasta Alfredo, Singapore noodles and tofu with vegetables to supplement the nutritious but bland prison meals.

“I have to put $100 in his buy-up every week. You can’t go over the amount,” she told the hosts.
