Larry Emdur’s hilarious message for Sarah Harris’ Studio 10 farewell

Sarah Harris farewelled Studio 10 after almost a decade this morning - and the funniest moment came from a competing morning TV host.

Longtime Studio 10 host Sarah Harris clocked her final episode of the show this morning, ahead of her move to primetime as a new host of The Project in 2023.

And among those who joined this morning’s on-air love-in was a former colleague – and even a TV host from a rival network.

Former Studio 10 panellist Joe Hildebrand, who exited the show as part of a 2020 shuffle that also saw Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Natarsha Belling leave, joined Harris and Angela Bishop on the sofa today to wish her well on the new gig.

Hildebrand’s appearance was something of a surprise, given earlier this week he appeared on Seven’s Sunrise and made a barbed joke about the fortunes of his former employer, saying that every year at Ten “there are fewer and fewer employees to send group emails.”

But Hildebrand’s jokes were mostly at his own expense during his Studio 10 appearance today – and he even came armed with a video message from a rival TV host.

Larry Emdur, who co-hosts The Morning Show on Seven in the same timeslot as Studio 10, recorded a brief but hilarious video message for Harris.

“Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Larry Emdur here, from Celebrity Splash, and Celebrity Dog School … and The Morning Show,” he began, name-checking some of his less successful TV ventures.

“Just wanted to wish you lots of love on such an exciting move. I know this morning TV thing can be an absolute killer – I’ve got to be in here at five minutes to nine, and I don’t get to leave until 11:31am,” he said of his role, hosting The Morning Show from 9am to 11:30am on weekdays.

“Wishing you heaps of luck with your big move to prime time. Everyone is going to love you … on A Current Affair. Lots of love.”

A Current Affair, of course, will be hosted by Nine’s Ally Langdon next year, following much industry speculation about who exactly would fill the seat vacated by Tracy Grimshaw after 17 years as host.

Harris will join host Waleed Aly on The Project desk from January after a “mass exodus” of on-air talent on the evening current affairs show, with Lisa Wilkinson, Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar all departing in quick succession in recent weeks.

But after almost 10 years as host of Studio 10, Harris recently admitted the move felt bittersweet.

“It’s tinged with a bit of sadness. Because I now step away from a show that’s been my baby for the better part of a decade,” she told Stellar Magazine.

“But the little show that could is still humming along and has some big plans for 2023, as well. And we’ll always be family.”
