Karl unleashes at teens targeting his mansion
The TV personality revealed his Sydney north shore pad in Castlecrag has been caught up in the youth crime wave sweeping Australia.
Karl Stefanovic has revealed his home on Sydney’s affluent north shore has been caught up in the youth crime wave sweeping parts of Australia.
The Today host shares the Castlecrag property with his model/designer wife Jasmine and three-year-old daughter Harper.
He was interviewing private security expert Anthony Schaepman about the crime wave in Melbourne when he made the revelation.
“Enough is enough,” he exclaimed. “This has happened to me, happened to my family. ‘I’ve had kids come to my house, doing things. I’ve got them on tape. I know who they are.
“I have to decide what I’m going to do with it. If I didn’t have that vision, I wouldn’t know what to do, and this would keep on happening and happening because the cops can’t be everywhere at once. It is only relatively minor offences.”
The outspoken TV personality said he feared youth crime was getting worse as he detailed the debilitating impact it has on families.
“Whenever the crime comes to their doorstep, whenever someone breaks into their car, whenever something happens that’s close to home, it has a tremendous psychological impact,” he said.
In May, Stefanovic broke down during an emotional interview about youth crime, speaking to victims of violence at the hands of young people and their bereaved families.
Former Queensland police superintendent Jim Keogh told Stefanovic that the crisis was the worst it had ever been during his 38-year career.
“There’s always been elements of problems … now you’re besieged with youth crime,” he said.
Mr Keogh added the removal of bail laws is “one of the catalysts” for the problem.
Youth crime has dramatically increased across the country.
In Victoria alone, the number of children committing criminal offences has risen by nearly 50 per cent, data released this month by Victoria Police shows.
The revelation of juveniles targeting the Stefanovic pad gives a further glimpse into his home life which became tabloid fodder after his very public marriage breakdown to Cassandra Thorburn in 2016.
He married Jasmine in a lavish ceremony in Mexico in 2018.
In March, Stefanovic lodged a $4.5m proposal to knock down and rebuild his three-bedroom property into a new home, boasting features including a spa, terraces and a pool room, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The plans come after Stefanovic paid $3.2m for the two-storey property in 2021.
Plans lodged by Stefanovic show the redevelopment would span five levels and include five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a swimming pool and spa, and dining and living areas. Other features include a pool entertaining room, courtyard and a three-car garage.
