Karl mocks Nine’s underwhelming ‘royal scoop’

ROYAL watchers are on high alert with Pippa Middleton in Sydney. On Today, Karl can’t hide his mirth at the ‘royal scoop’.

TODAY makes fun of coverage of Pippa Middleton's honeymoon

PIPPA Middleton’s surprise honeymoon in Sydney has taken the local media by surprise, as they now scramble to bring royal watchers coverage of the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister’s hush-hush Aussie visit.

Pictures first surfaced yesterday showing Middleton and new husband James Matthews strutting around Circular Quay — but this morning’s vision of the couple was a little less enthralling.

Today newsreader Syliva Jeffreys brought a little “royal scoop” to the show this morning: “Pictures have just come in from our team of reporters following Pippa Middleton and her new husband James Matthews,” she announced.

The pictures? Blurry, shaky footage of Matthews, facing away from the camera, on the balcony of the couple’s Park Hyatt hotel room.

“There you have it, proof that they are in fact staying there at the Park Hyatt, Karl and Lisa,” Jeffreys said, her face breaking into a smile as Stefanovic and Wilkinson laughed at the underwhelming ‘scoop’.

“That’s an amazing bit of news there, Sylvia,” Stefanovic teased.

“I do my best,” she quipped.

Karl couldn't resist taking the piss.

“That is a beautiful hotel, that one,” said Wilkinson, gamely trying to extend the story.

“And it’s Tom Cruise’s favourite hotel to stay in in Sydney. He has just been here. I wouldn’t be surprised if he vacated the room for Pippa and James.”

Sylvia’s face just about summed it up:
