David Campbell’s trainwreck interview resurfaces on the Kardashians reality show
Channel 9 star David Campbell has reacted after his trainwreck interview with Kourtney Kardashian became a topic of conversation on the family’s reality show.
It remains one of the most awkward interviews on Australian live TV, and seven years later, Kourtney Kardashian’s blunder on Channel 9 is still making headlines.
Kourtney appeared on Nine’s midmorning program, Today Extra, back in 2016, just weeks after her younger sister Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris.
Naturally, co-host David Campbell, who was interviewing the eldest Kardashian sister alongside co-host Sonia Kruger, felt inclined to ask how Kim was doing in the wake of the highly-publicised ordeal.
What transpired was a cringe-worthy live TV encounter, in which one of Kourtney’s representatives crashed the interview off-camera, causing a seven-second pause from the US reality star mid-interview before it cut to an ad break.
The moment has often gone viral on social media over the years, and it resurfaced yet again on The Kardashians’ latest episode, which streams on Disney+.
While getting her hair and makeup done for a photo shoot, Kourtney was discussing how she isn’t confident conducting press interviews.
A member of her team then brought up her trainwreck appearance on the Australian morning program, dubbing it “iconic”, as Kourtney spoke generally about how interviews give her “anxiety”.
Discussing it on Wednesday’s episode of Today Extra alongside Sylvia Jeffreys, Campbell said he was “surprised” to see the incident talked about on the globally popular reality show, before clarifying what actually happened at the time.
“Can you imagine my surprise when season three of The Kardashians is dropping, and even Kourtney herself can’t escape this,” Campbell said.
He continued: “I want to highlight this fact – because it probably won’t be aired on The Kardashians – but, what happened is a PR [public relations] walked in, it was after the Paris robbery so we had to ask and then the famous blanking happened.
“So, we went to an ad break because we lost her but in the ad break she absolutely bollocked her PR person and after the ad break she answered the question, she was an absolute trooper.
“And it always made me feel better about the Kardashians as a whole, she was awesome.”
Kourtney did indeed end up returning to air to finish the interview.
“We just had a bad connection,” Kourtney explained with a smile.
“Everyone was talking to me, but yeah, I mean, you know, she’s not doing great.
“I think we’re all really still shaken up and I just – you know, I think she has a big supportive family and I know that, like, all of the traumatic things that we’ve been through, you know, we get through them together as a family and that’s what family is all about.”
