‘If a zip or a button is out of place, that’s it for me — it ruins the dress!’

EVERY girl dreams of finding the perfect dress, but would you be willing to try on 50 frocks in 20 stores?

Should Aussies get wedding leave?

IT’S perfectly acceptable to be a picky bride. There’s a lot to consider at the end of the day.

Should you invest in a guest book, when you know no one will sign it? Are party favours (code for crap) really that necessary? How much is too much to spend on flowers?

It goes without saying that when it comes to choosing the right dress, a gal can’t be rushed.

Gina’s eyes really do say it all!

Meet Gina Basham. She’s about to marry the man of her dreams and she’s in a bit of a pickle.

“I’ve already tried on over 50 dresses and I’m getting to the point where I feel like I can’t go into another wedding dress shop,” she says on Say Yes To The Dress: UK.

“I know what I want in my head, but I’m yet to find it in real life.”

“Maybe that’s my biggest problem — imagining a dress that doesn’t exist.”

Host David Emanuel, best known for designing Princess Diana’s jaw-dropping 1981 wedding dress, is about to discover that not even sequins can save the day.

Let alone his years of experience.

“I hate it, it’s horrible!” Gina cries.

“This is a pageant dress — it’s got the glitz and glam of a red carpet.
“The one thing I do love is the train.”

“So which bits don’t you like?” David quizzes.

“The rest!” she continues.

Exasperated, David moves forward with his faithful assistant Brogan.

For the record, Gina’s dream dress is something fitted and sexy yet elegant.

Anything “froufrou” (people still say that, apparently), frilly or puffy is a deal-breaker as shop keepers in more than 20 bridal boutiques across the UK will attest.

Thing is, Gina’s fussy and she makes no apologies for it.

“If a zip or a button is out of place, that’s it for me — it ruins the dress,” she says.

Whatever happened to the days when a bride only had to worry about her dress meeting three key criteria:

— Does it make my boobs pop and my booty look bountiful?

— Will I be able to limbo on the dancefloor, after several pinot calapsos, without ripping a seam?

— And will my bridesmaids look like the perfect handmaids I’ve always envisioned?

Ah, the good old days.

She does find a frock, but, god, was it worth all that?

Say Yes To The Dress: UK airs on August 1 at 8.30pm on Foxtel’s TLC.
