It looks like Yellowstone might be returning after all.

Negotiations are reportedly underway for a sixth season of the Western nearly four months after it was confirmed that the show would conclude with the second half of season five which debuts later this year.

According to the latest reports from Deadline, Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) are in talks to lead the new season of the Taylor Sheridan series following the departure of actor Kevin Costner.

Costner confirmed back in June that he would not be returning for the rest of season five following months of rumours regarding his shock exit.

Yellowstone, which tells the story of the Dutton family, who have owned and operated America’s largest ranch for six generations, premiered in 2018 and has since become one of the biggest shows in the world.

Reports of a potential sixth season of the hit series come after it was confirmed former Lost star Matthew Fox will lead the upcoming spin-off, The Madison, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer.

They’re not the only big name star that’s set to star in the series, with Suits actor Patrick J. Adams and Hollywood icon Kurt Russell also rumoured to be in talks to co-star.

Meanwhile, creator Taylor Sheridan has gotten into several public rumoured feuds with his stars.

Kevin Costner left Yellowstone under a cloud of rumours and accusations that he didn’t prioritise the series over his film work, which he denied.

“I have taken a beating from those f***ing guys, and I know a lot of times where it’s coming from,” Costner said in May, referring to the producers and creator Sheridan.

However, it was also alleged that Sheridan has a “god complex,” which frustrated Costner and was a source of friction between them.

“Only Taylor truly knows what is going on,” a source told The Post in April. “Taylor spent years not being truly appreciated in Hollywood, and now that he’s the top of the heap, there’s definitely some ego to all of this.”

Sheridan broke his silence about the Costner feud in June, telling the Hollywood Reporter, “My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct,” he said, referring to Costner’s Western movie, Horizon, which has since gone on to bomb at the box office.

Sheridan alleged that the shooting schedule was the reason for his falling out with his star.

“He and the network were arguing about when he could be done with Yellowstone.’ I said, ‘We can certainly work a schedule toward [his preferred exit date],’ which we did,” he said.

“[I] never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone,” he went on.

“But, once lawyers get involved, then people don’t get to talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and attempt to shift blame based on how the press or public seem to be reacting … His movie seems to be a great priority to him … I sure hope it’s worth it.”
